Genentech, Inc. is a leading biotechnology corporation which was founded in 1976 by Robert A. Swanson, a venture capitalist, and biochemist Dr. Herbert W. Boyer. Boyer was one of two scientists who pioneered the scientific field of recombinant DNA technology.
