I hope you stick around wikipedia for a long time. Your enthusiasm is greatly welcomed here. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, User:Kingturtle 18:03, 11 Apr 2004 (UTC) ==80,255== Ive noticed your spat with User:80.255 on the Sunderland page. What he/she's doing is completely unnaceptable. Policy regarding county naming has already been decided upon at Wikipedia: Naming conventions (places). I've had many arguments with 80,255 at Warwickshire and Coventry feel free to revert his/her changes User:G-Man 17:31, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC) ==Edward VIII== Hello, Garry. I've viewed the revision history of Edward VIII of the United Kingdom: :http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Edward_VIII_of_the_United_Kingdom&action=history and I can't find the edit you mention. Could you please provide me with a link to the edit where you made the specific change to the article? Thanks. Happy editing, User:Chris Roy 15:52, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC) ==Sunderland== I am thinking about making City of Sunderland be an article about the city of Sunderland, and making Sunderland just be about the area that used to be part of the county borough. This follows precedent we've set for districts that include disconnected urban areas or large rural districts (e.g. Lancaster vs City of Lancaster, Canterbury, England vs City of Canterbury, and Peterborough vs City of Peterborough, etc. (See Wikipedia:List of English districts to disambiguate for a big list of districts we've done this too). I am wondering if you have any feelings in this matter. Thanks, User:Morwen 17:08, May 3, 2004 (UTC) :Great idea. I renamed Sunderland City of Sunderland, but User:G-Man was none too happy about what I called my hometown and reverted. I have some notes and half articles that can be used for Sunderland. The City is in 3 parts, Sunderland, Washington and Hetton & Houghton, so the article can certainly be divided. User:Garryq 18:06, 3 May 2004 (UTC) ::How does that look? User:Morwen 19:27, May 3, 2004 (UTC) :::You've made at least one editor exceeding happy :) Thanks. User:Garryq 20:05, 3 May 2004 (UTC) ==Anthony Claud Frederick Lambton, 6th Earl of Durham== Hey, no problem at all. I thought the short forms may be useful as redirects, for exampel if somebody types in "Anthony Lambton" in the search box. Happy editing -- User:Chris 73 | User talk:Chris 73 01:48, 9 May 2004 (UTC) ---- Hi - just a small point this, but when you make links such as the one you just edited in Jack the Ripper, can you please not use underscores (_) for spaces. There's no need to use them, and it makes links look a bit ugly. All the best--User:Camembert ---- Tnx for yr Senate-classes response; a little embarrassing for it to come from abroad, but hey!
I think that helps substantially. --User:JerzyUser talk:Jerzy 16:13, 2004 May 14 (UTC) ---- == Baron Rix == In regards to Baron Rix: - User:TextureUser Talk:TextureUser:Texture 20:19, 16 May 2004 (UTC) : Its back --User:Garryq 21:44, 16 May 2004 (UTC) ---- Hi, Garry. I notice you have reintroduced the error in the article on Richard III of England which says that there are records of Hastings' trial. This is a very controversial article, and it's important to keep it NPOV. If you feel I am wrong and you have evidence that such records exist, please quote a reference and location where they can be viewed. User:Deb 11:53, 17 May 2004 (UTC) Thanks for your note. I've heard the ''claim'' before, that there are records of Hastings' trial, but all the books I've read say that there aren't. However, if they do exist, I'll be quite happy to give way. I don't know if you saw "Historyonics" the other week - that was a surprisingly even-handed interpretation of the known facts, I thought. If the Richard III talk page is short, it's probably because I gave up arguing with a certain person who was determined to have her own way; I just waited for her to leave the project, which happened more quickly than I'd hoped. However, you'll find the controversy has been shared out between several articles, including Edward IV of England, Edward V of England, Princes in the Tower, Dominic Mancini and Philippe de Commines, to name but a few! User:Deb 16:46, 17 May 2004 (UTC) Hi again. It's not your fault you took what someone else had written at face value, but I don't think these records exist. I'll have a look at that article on Morton, and see if I can help make it more even-handed. Unfortunately, the only way it can ever be "proved" is to produce the records of the trial. Otherwise, we have to assume there aren't any. User:Deb 16:47, 18 May 2004 (UTC) Kindly leave my user pages alone. User:Mintguy User talk: Mintguy 22:28, 20 May 2004 (UTC) ---- Just wondering - did you get my reply? User:Morwen 17:01, May 23, 2004 (UTC) ==1974== I'm digging up some fascinating stuff in these researches - have a look at the Administrative counties of England#1974 : Two-tier section for a start. Of note for Tyne and Wear is that (a) the Local Government Bill 1971 actually named it 'Tyneside' (lated amended for reasons I am sure you can imagine), and it was to include Easington and Seaham. Looking at a map that would have left Durham practically landlocked! User:Morwen 22:28, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC) :Didn't know about "Tyneside". The Redcliffe-Maud Commission in 1969 (?) never managed to get that far. --User:Garryq 22:38, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC) ::Apparently they didn't think it was worth a metropolitan county. They just recommended ones based on Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. ::There are some particular things I'm going to have to look up a bit more. In particular, there were 'passenger transport authorities' for the conurbations well before 1974. Apparently Greater Manchester had a South East Lancashire North East Cheshire (SELNEC) PTA. I wonder if Tyneside had a similar one. Another intesting thing is apparently there were plans for a 'South Hampshire' metropoplitan county, consisting of presumably the Southampton/Portsmouth areas. User:Marnanel 16:14, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC) == vote == Good luck! User:Morwen - User_talk:Morwen 11:31, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC) ==Cambourne== Cambourne is definitely worthy of an article. But it shouldn't appear on the list of towns, as by any standard I can think of it isn't a town. Note that the list of towns is not just a list of places, which are usually listed on the appropriate county or borough article. I've removed Cambourne again, along with Barnt Green, which has if anything even less of a claim to the status. User:Marnanel 16:37, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC) :As a section of the Royal Household they may be {CrownCopyright}, but as Garter Principal contends "that the question of copyright is not really relevant" in an heraldic display, I prefer {fair use} in wiki's educational context. --User:Garryq 17:51, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC) ::You could probably get away with public domain. If "the question of copyright is not really relevant" this would suggest that they are uncopyrightable, or they are effectively so, as it would be impossible for their copyright holders to assert any intellectual property rights over them. — User:Trilobite User_talk:Trilobite 05:51, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC) == Mountbatten == Thank you for clarifying the ancestry secion on Louis Mountbatten- it's much more readable now. -User:Finn-Zoltan 18:59, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC) == Enormous blue square with white cross == The software says that you replaced a bunch of heraldic images with an enormous blue square with a white cross (like this one: [http://en.wikipedia.org/upload/2/22/Drapers_COA.jpg]). The ''CC-by-sa'' license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the Wikipedia:List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at ''minimum'' those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information: *User talk:Ram-Man#Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered *Wikipedia:Multi-licensing *User:rambot#Free the Rambot Articles project To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "" template into their user page, but there are other options at Wikipedia:Template messages/User namespace#Licensing Templates. Garryq

Up here in Sunderland United Kingdom I discovered wikipedia in March 2004. My first post, in April, lasted a few hours before being completely reorganized. I was annoyed as hell until I realised it was now a much tighter article. Same info, no padding. It was a great way to learn about writing articles. But I’m used to padding :), I am a full time local councillor, on Sunderland City Council (or I am until June 10 2004). My epilepsy means at least one meeting of the City Council has been interesting. My interests include *co-operation/mutualism *heraldry *British, Irish & US constitutional theory & practice.
