Ed, Edd n Eddy''Ed, Edd n Eddy'' is an animated series created by Danny Antonucci and produced by a.k.a. Cartoon for the Cartoon Network. The premise is that three friends—named Ed, Edd, and Eddy (collectively known as "the Eds")—hang around in their suburban neighborhood of Peach Creek Estates. Led by Eddy, the Eds scheme to make money off their peers, but their plans usually fail, leaving them in various predicaments. The characters almost never leave the neighborhood, and adults are nowhere to be found. The series, which was Cartoon Network's fifth, was first aired in 1999 and has since attracted millions of fans worldwide. Originally, there were to be only four seasons; Cartoon Network, however, has ordered two more seasons of ''Ed, Edd n Eddy'', bringing the series' length to six seasons. There are also three holiday specials: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. A DVD named ''Edifying Ed-Ventures (DVD)'', containing six episodes and several bonus features, was released in May 10, 2005. ==Characters== *Ed: The least intelligent of the Eds, Ed is the workhorse of the group. He is known for his non-sequiturs that usually involve buttered toast, gravy, and chickens. His mind is a subculture grab bag full of comic book and monster film. Despite his larger size, Ed is utterly at the mercy of his tyrannical younger sister Sarah and is an easy target for her emotional blackmail techniques. His actual first name is Edwin. *Edd: (normally called Double D), inventor and Wiktionary:mysophobe, brains of the group, sarcastic as of late. He is never seen without his trademark black-stocking cap, hence the nickname Sockhead. His parents put a heavy workload upon him, communicating tasks primarily through a multitude of sticky notes. His middle name is Marion. *Eddy: An incompetent juvenile con artist and unofficial leader of the Eds. Eddy is a complete sucker for jawbreakers at the local candy store (they are gigantic, but only cost a quarter) and would go at any lengths to scam the other kids for money, mostly for a quarter (or more). Due to his being short, he has an inferiority complex. His middle name is Skipper. *Sarah: Ed's foul-tempered little sister who acts cute and charming when it serves her. Sarah has Ed's unending loyalty and obedience to some fans, mostly through threats of her tattling on him. It has been hinted in several episodes that she has a crush on Edd, more than likely because he gives her a flower in "An Ed Too Many." *Jimmy: an effeminate, aspiring artist, Jimmy likes playing dollies with Sarah. He can be more manipulative and conniving (and much more successful) than Eddy when given motivation. Jimmy is quite accident-prone, and there are few episodes where he isn't seen with bandages. However, he can be quite crafty, and once framed the Eds for wrecking a friendship monument (a giant paper-mache heart). *Rolf: of foreign culture with odd customs, owns a small farm within the cul-de-sac, leads a scouting group called the Urban Rangers (consisting of himself, Jonny, Jimmy, and Plank), and is the son of a shepherd, which he calls himself often. His faithful pets are a pig named Wilfred, a goat named Victor, a cow, and several chickens. *Jonny: has a big head, frequently gets on the other kids' nerves, likes collecting clams, believes Plank sees things, a member of Rolf's Urban Rangers. Jonny has a somewhat heroic streak, shown best in "Robbin Ed." *Plank: a piece of plywood with drawn-on eyes and mouth; Jonny's best friend. While immobile and silent simultaneously, he is often able to have an effect on the kids through strange and elaborate coincidences. Plank is reminiscent of Stump from ''The Angry Beavers''. It appears that Plank communicates telepathically, having no real mouth. *Nazz: the trendy and attractive girl in the cul-de-sac who mostly hangs out with Kevin and does not mind the Eds at times. Most of the boys have a crush on her, and when she approaches, they lose the ability to speak coherently. *Kevin: the "cool" kid, hates the Eds (especially Eddy, but he seems to like Ed and Double D at one point, probably still does), calls them dorks, watches ''60 Minutes'', has a garage full of jawbreakers (see "A Boy and His Ed" and "Stuck in Ed") (his dad works at a jawbreaker factory). Kevin is often seen riding or working on his bike. There are few things Kevin likes more than riding his bike, and he snowboards in the winter (as in the Christmas special, "Ed, Edd n Eddy's Jingle Jingle Jangle") *Lee (redhead), Marie (blue hair), and May (blonde): have crushes on the Eds; live in a nearby ''Park n Flush'' trailer park. They are feared by all the other kids who live in the cul-de-sac, especially the Eds and Kevin, for their brash and uninhibited demeanor. Collectively, they are known as the Kanker Sisters. *'''Eddy's brother:''' Never seen, but Eddy brags about him a lot. He was most likely the coolest kid in the cul-de-sac, and apparently when away to college. Kevin is scared of Eddy's bro thinking of him as a dork, Rolf thinks Eddy's Brother wants to steal his chickens, Jonny looks up to him, and Nazz has a crush on him. ==Trivia== *''Ed, Edd n Eddy'' was unusual in that it was animated wholly using traditional traditional animation, while most cartoons are now animated using computer animation. The use of painted cels lasted up to the end of the 4th season: Though the show is entirely hand-drawn, all cels are colored digitally. (This is due to the fact that no animation studio paints cels anymore.) It was the last major cartoon to use painted cels. *An interesting gimmick in the show (much akin to the theme in ''Peanuts'') is that the number of characters in the show is "fixed": no adults or other characters other than those already in play ever appear in the show. The entire adult world is a set of hidden characters. Occasionally, a vehicle will enter the small universe the show is set in, and it can be presumed that an adult is driving, although they are never seen. The character who comes closest to ever being seen is Rolf's Nana, whom he sometimes talks to (although she never talks back). In addition, Santa Claus made a cameo on the Christmas special to give the kids their gifts. He flew away shortly after appearing. *Another gimmick is the constant use of the letters "AKA," which is the abbreviation for the name of the company that produces the show. The words have been seen on license plates, magazines, and other things. *In the show, jawbreakers, the candy all the characters love, are huge candy spheres as big as (sometimes bigger than) the characters' heads. In the show, the jawbreakers are big, in real-life, they're little. *Television is an odd matter in the series. Typically, the only thing on is a movie that is identified in "Nagged to Ed" as ''Fishbowl 2'' ("A classic!"), which consists of live-action paper fish being moved around on sticks and several unnamed monster movies. In another episode, in which the characters play hide and seek, Ed hides inside the television set in the same setting as a cartoon character resembling Felix the Cat. *All the episode titles are popular sayings, but with an important word replaced with the word "Ed." e.g., "Knock, Knock, Who's Ed?" and "Wish You Were Ed." *Most of the episodes begin with something completely unrelated to the storyline of the episode. This is to emphasize the randomness of childhood.[http://animationbymistake.fateback.com/abm/dannytalk.html] *In Brazil, the show is aired with the name ''Du, Dudu e Edu''. In Spanish language, the show's name is ''Ed, Edd y Eddy''. *There are several instances in which the fourth wall is almost broken: **Double D comments: "That's what we do on every show, but not like this!" **Ed says: "I should have the feeling back in my feet after a word from our sponsors, guys!" **In another Eddy refers to Jonny, saying: "Man is he gonna sleep through the entire show?" **They were once talking about a past episode and Eddy asked if they won a emmy for that show. **In another episode, Kevin declares, "This show needs subtitles." **Eddy claims Kevin did something, but Double D replies: "But Kevin wasn't even in this episode, Eddy!" *Peach Creek, which is where the cul-de-sac is, shares the name of a real-life neighborhood a wee bit west of Kingsland, Georgia. ==Episode list== :''All air dates are U.S. air dates and are in U.S. format (month/day/year). I don't know if that's also the name of an actual place or not, but even if it is, I doubt it was intentional. "The cursed phone episode was made before the Lemony Snicket movie came out." How is this trivia? "Double D's middle name is Marion, not Miriam." It probably is Marion, but since that was put under Double D's info, it doesn't belong in the trivia section. Also, that sentence seems more like something to be said on the talk page.—User:Boarder8925 14:25, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Cleanin' up some links == Hey folks, This is a very cool article, but it's come to my attention (by wandering around the Cleanup page) that a lot of the episode articles could use some help. First, a lot of them don't mention that they are episodes of this show. Secondly, several are tagged as copyvio. Third, a lot of them, IMHO, are not written very well at all. Fourth, my understanding is that it's considered poor Wikiquette to "create" non-articles by wikilinking in the main page but not actually writing anything on the linked page. (Although I've certainly been guilty of this myself. . . .) "Creating" episode articles could wait until one of you guys actually writes about that episode. Bobber2 kind of seems to be the main culprit for these problems. Maybe some of you guys who are fans of this show and who have made this a good article could kind of guide him/her to improve his contributions to Wikipedia. Thanks. Soundguy99 16:15, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC) User:Bobber2, please do not erase this comment. It is considered ''seriously'' rude to delete comments from the talk pages. I'm sorry if you feel singled out for criticism by my note above, but the articles' histories provide support for my analysis. Othere editors who have worked hard on this article deserve to know that some articles connected with this one could be improved. User:Soundguy99 13:48, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC) :I've also tried to talk to Bobber2 at his talk page. I guess he doesn't read it, so I've sent him an email that includes links to Wikipedia:Manual of Style, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Civility, and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not.
