Dorado''Other uses: dorado is used in the fisheries of some Latin American countries to denote the edible fish mahi-mahi (''Coryphaena hippurus'').'' Dorado (Latin for ''Swordfish'') is a southern constellation. The constellation was one of twelve constellations created by Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Frederick de Houtman between 1595 and 1597, and it first appeared in Johann Bayer's ''Uranometria'' of 1603. It is notable for containing most of the Large Magellanic Cloud, the remainder being in the constellation Mensa (constellation). The South Ecliptic Pole lies within this constellation. == Notable stars == ===Stars with Bayer designations=== :: Alpha Doradus 3.30; Beta Doradus 3.76; Gamma Doradus 4.26; Delta Doradus 4.34; Epsilon Doradus 5.10; Zeta Doradus 4.71; Theta Doradus 4.81; Eta1 Doradus 5.72; Eta2 Doradus 5.01; Kappa Doradus 5.28; Lambda Doradus 5.14; Nu Doradus 5.06; Pi1 Doradus 5.56; Pi2 Doradus 5.37 ===Stars with Flamsteed designations=== :: 28 Doradus 5.34; 36 Doradus 4.65 ===Other notable stars=== :* S Doradus 9.721 – hypergiant in the Large Magellanic Cloud, S Dor variable prototype :*SN1987A is the closest supernova since the invention of the telescope. :* The variable star R Doradus 5.73 – has the largest as of 1997 size of any star. It's incorrect because constellations don't have distances from Earth, only the individual stars. -- B.d.mills ">User:B.d.mills (User talk:B.d.mills) 03:29, 13 May 2005 (UTC) Dorado==Welcome== Hello , Wikipedia:Community_Portal.
