Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil

''Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil'' is a first-person shooter expansion pack for the 2004 in video gaming video game, ''Doom 3''. It was released on April 4, 2005. The game features return of the double-barreled shotgun and support for up to eight people in multiplayer. ''Resurrection of Evil'' also features eleven new singleplayer levels, three new monsters, and four new multiplayer maps. ==Story== Set two years after the events of ''Doom 3'' in 2147, the Union Aerospace Corporation detects a strange signal from one of its Mars satellites, and sends a team in to investigate. Finding Hell's "Artifact" in the process, the forces of Hell attempt to retake the object from the player. The player controls a marine combat engineer, and he is working for an unseen character from ''Doom 3'': Dr. Elizabeth McNeil, the doctor who was the whistleblower who sent Swann and Campbell at the beginning of ''Doom 3''. After fighting his way through the complex, the marine eventually meets up with McNeil in the Phobos Labs. She tells him that the only way to destroy the Artifact is to return it to where it came from: Hell. The marine powers down the base to re-route power to one of the Teleportation to get to Delta Labs, where the main teleporter that goes to Hell is at. Once the marine gets to Hell, he battles his way to where Betruger is. Betruger fights with his demon carrier, the Maledict. After fighting him, the Maledict bites him, but before he can eat him, the marine shoves the Artifact down Betruger's throat, killing him. We then hear Dr. McNeil's voice saying, "Welcome home, Marine". ==Initial reactions== Much like the parent game, ''Resurrection of Evil'' has already had some criticisms leveled at it. Since the player controls an engineer, the developers have 'activated' a tool id Software used in developing the parent game. This weapon, "the Grabber", picks up and moves certain items similar to the "Gravity Gun" from the competing game ''Half-Life 2''. Some have commented that the move is simply adding a popular concept into the expansion in order to generate sales while most seem to agree that it does add a degree of fun to the game none-the-less. The developers have commented that the tool was in the game before ''Half-Life 2'', and was used to create "damaged" rooms in ''Doom 3''; instead of building a ruined room, they would build a pristine room and use the Grabber to 'damage' it realistically. The gun can also catch fireballs hurled by enemies and throw them back at them. ==The Artifact== As stated above, the Artifact is an item of evil. After defeating each of the hunters Hell releases to find the player, the Artifact gains a new ability. It can only be used for a short time, and has a maximum of three "charges", which can be replenished by standing over human corpses. The first is the ability to slow time (Hell Time), or a bullet time effect. The player and enemies move at the same pace of time. The second ability is Beserk, which grants the user 4 times the power when using weapons and the ability to kill any enemy with one hit with their fists. The third and final ability is invulnerability, which makes the player invincible as long as the artifact is used. Interesting note: Since the Artifact is "evil", the players hands deteriorate while holding it. ==Screenshots== Image:artifactdoom3roe.JPG|The Artifact Image:doom3roe3.JPG|Using the Artifact Image:doom3roe5.JPG|Gaining a ability from a Hunter Image:doom3roe2.JPG|Using the Grabber to catch a fireball ==External links== *[http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/doom-3-resurrection-of-evil/577592p2.html Announcement article from Gamespy] *[http://www.gametab.com/pc/doom.3.resurrection.of.evil/3797/ GameTab reviews] *[http://www.doom3.com Official site] 2005 computer and video games Doom First-person shooters Activision games Windows games
