== DoBeDo- Chat Island == Dobedo was the creation of swedish company Beedo. It has been called the first and greatest teenage chatsite ever created. Although this is only an opinion, it was certainly unique. Unique for one reason. It was set out as a 2D comic soap opera! You could create a little character and explore the 2D island of DoBeDo and participate in the active storyline where several characters who were part of the DoBeDo story would turn up on the chat and often many crazy things happened! A favourite of the fans was when egg was found in a room called 'Cocoons'. The egg was monitored until one day it started to roll! It rolled through several rooms and was eventually hard to find! Eventually the egg was caught by a story character named DJ Danny C. He brought the egg to his night club for it to hatch (which happened to coincide with his weekly party). Danny Cs club was packed with users in anticipation of knowing what was inside the egg. Eventually the egg hatched to reveal a giant robot in the form of one of the islands evil characters, cleverly named Evil Bob! The robot, however, was named Robo Bob. He proceded to 'zap' and 'imprison' everyone on the island. (see below for Zapping and Imprisoning) Robo Bob began to turn all of the story characters into robotic slaves and the members of the chat were to choose whether or not they were to change their avatar so that it sported a robotic head (provided by dobedo) or whether they were to fight robo bob! The robot was eventually destroyed by the girlfriend of a now robotic Danny C, who claimed her love for him. This was too much for robo bob to handle, love nd broken his circuits and he exploded in the islands Volcano! One of the greatest things about dobedo is that the story was constant! This little robotic feud produced a very strange storyline involving an angry father or Danny's girlfriend inventing a time machine, bringing back a dinosaur and having a very viscous pie fight in a prehistoric village with was only accessible via a giant time machine! Zapping and Imprisoning were the forms of punishment, loyal members of the chat could receive a Zap Wand, which could be used to silence any member of the chat if they were being disruptive, it also changed the head of their avatar into a comic explosion with the word Zzap! written on it. Imprisoning Handcuffs were given to loyal members also, these could be used to send chatters into the DoBeDo prison; located in the dungeon of the islands' castle! Everyone on DoBeDo could pick up and collect items to show off to their friends. These items came from machines that lay across the island. Items were mainly used as emoticons but some of them were like a certificate saying that you were at a certain event! For example, you might be one of the few to own a pie from the mentioned prehistoric pie fight. The Island was funded by advertising. But instead of pop ups, the advertising was incorperated into the chat. For example, if nokia wanted to advertise, a shop may have been set up in the Islands city (Named Trumpfellow City after another of the islands baddies, The Tycoon; Dr Trumpfellow). Players would be able to enter the shop, pick up a rare nokia items (probably a phone!) and maybe enter a compatition. Unfortunately DoBeDo had to close due to lack of funding, presumably not enough advertisers knew about DoBeDo and they just couldn't get enough money. The Island was immensely popular! The islands image rights were sold off to the teen chat site; Palace Chat who altered the concept considerably, much to the dissapointment of loyal dobedo members. It is fair to say that palace chat did save DoBeDo although it lost most of what made it special. BeeDo is now called Chili, their website is chili.se. Feel free to beg them to create a new chat site.
