The Danes initially failed to qualify, as they finished second behind Yugoslavia national football team in their qualifying group. Denmark made their first Football World Cup in Football World Cup 1986, when they surprised the world, sweeping the group, including a 6-1 trashing of Uruguay national football team. In the second round, they did receive a trashing of their own, losing to Spain national football team 5-1. Denmark is equally famous for its traveling fans, known as ''roligans'', which have received numerous awards from FIFA and UEFA for their combination of easy-going nature and rabid support.
