Denmark national football team

The Denmark national football team, controlled by the Danish Football Association, has been a solidly competitive side in international football since the mid-1980s. Denmark's finest hour in international competition came in 1992 European Football Championship. The Danes initially failed to qualify, as they finished second behind Yugoslavia national football team in their qualifying group. However, due to international sanctions resulting from the Yugoslav wars, Yugoslavia was barred from the tournament, and Denmark entered as the second-place team in its group. In one of the biggest surprises in the event's history, the Danes went on to win. Denmark made their first Football World Cup in Football World Cup 1986, when they surprised the world, sweeping the group, including a 6-1 trashing of Uruguay national football team. In the second round, they did receive a trashing of their own, losing to Spain national football team 5-1. Denmark is equally famous for its traveling fans, known as ''roligans'', which have received numerous awards from FIFA and UEFA for their combination of easy-going nature and rabid support. The national team's current coach, Morten Olsen, is one of the country's highest capped players (102). ==World Cup record== *Football World Cup 1930 to Football World Cup 1954 - ''Did not enter'' *Football World Cup 1958 - ''Did not qualify'' *Football World Cup 1962 - ''Did not enter'' *Football World Cup 1966 to Football World Cup 1982 - ''Did not qualify'' *Football World Cup 1986 - Round 2 *Football World Cup 1990 - ''Did not qualify'' *Football World Cup 1994 - ''Did not qualify'' *Football World Cup 1998 - Quarterfinals *Football World Cup 2002 - Round 2 ==European Championship record== *1960 European Football Championship - ''Did not qualify'' *1964 European Football Championship - Fourth place *1968 European Football Championship to 1980 European Football Championship - ''Did not qualify'' *1984 European Football Championship - Semifinals *1988 European Football Championship - Round 1 *1992 European Football Championship - Champions *1996 European Football Championship - Round 1 *2000 European Football Championship - Round 1 *2004 European Football Championship - Quarterfinals ==Famous players== *Harald Bohr *Preben Elkjær Larsen *Thomas Gravesen *Jesper Grønkjær *Thomas Helveg *Brian Laudrup *Michael Laudrup *Poul Nielsen *Sophus Nielsen *Peter Schmeichel *Allan Simonsen *Thomas Sørensen *Jon Dahl Tomasson Danish football
