DeadhorseDeadhorse (located near Prudhoe Bay) is a location on the northern coast of Alaska. The "town" consists mainly of the facilities of oil-field-services companies. The town is on one of the most northern longitudinal lines in North America (or even the world) that is open to the public and accessible via road, the Dalton Highway. Most land between Deadhorse and the Arctic Ocean (Beaufort Sea) is leased by BP which runs the Prudhoe Bay oil field, the largest oil field in the United States. Access to the oil field areas is tightly restricted, although a few tour companies do offer tours that transit the fields to briefly visit the sea during the summer months. Companies with facilities in Deadhorse service Prudhoe Bay and other local oil fields, as well as the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) which brings oil from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez in south-central Alaska. Deadhorse has an all weather airport with daily flights from Anchorage and Fairbanks on Alaska Airlines and is also serviced by several private charter carriers. Facilities in Deadhorse are built entirely on man-made gravel pads and usually consist of pre-fab trailers brought up on barge or via air cargo.
