DF08

Hello! (:zh:User:CNDF08, :de:Benutzer:DEDF08, :fr:Utilisateur:FRDF08, :it:Utente:ITDF08!) This is the user page for user DF08. (I have initiated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Transportation in China, which includes airports, seaports, rail, road and expressways.) I also [http://wikimac.wikicities.com/index.php/User:DavidFeng appear (with my real name)] at the new [http://mac.wikicities.com WikiMac project]. ----
▶ 11 in favour, none against -- with that, I become one of the newest administrators on Wikipedia. Thank you to all of you that voted in favour of me. I'm at Wikipedia's service now.
▶ Now, DF08 images in English, Chinese, French, German and Italian are Public Domain. New images, only, are public domain images. (Images uploaded on October 14, 2004, or earlier, remain GFDL.)
▶ Over 1,500 edits since June 2004.
---- ==Basic Situation== Chinese with Swiss passport in Beijing ==Fundamental Principles== *Vandalism is bad and gives you a bad attitude. *Problems must be solved diplomatically and not with brute force. *'''The truth doesn't hurt. Nor does the Neutral Point of View. ==DF08== ===The DF08 Identity=== I participate in different language versions of the Wikipedia, thus I possess multiple accounts. Identities used:
DF08 = DF08 (English)
CNDF08 = DF08 (Chinese)
DEDF08 = DF08 (German)
FRDF08 = DF08 (French)
ITDF08 = DF08 (Italian) ===DF08 Achievements and Major Contributions=== *
English: Mention on Great editing in Progress, Barnstar, Beijing + Expressways (PRC/CH), initiated WikiProject on Transportation in China. Am resuming edits in the Macintosh world. * Chinese: Beijing Expressways, Road transportation in general, initiated WikiProjects on Transportation in China and Expressways overall. ==Languages Spoken== Fluently: English
Relatively fluently: Chinese, German, French
To a certain extent:''' Italian I consider my native language to be English, that without a doubt, as I was brought up in an English-speaking environment in Switzerland. My 1st foreign language (formerly my mother tongue by birth) is Chinese; I can speak it relatively well, although asking me to write a letter to, say, a local official, in Chinese, would get me sweating. My 2nd foreign language is German (I picked it up in 1991), my 3rd foreign language French (1994), 4th one Italian (1996). I will more likely than not make a few grammatical errors in all other languages -- so if you see something grammatically wrong in the other versions of Wikipedia I'm lending a hand in -- I'm trying. ;) Since moving back to Beijing in 2000 my Chinese has seen better days ''come'' day by day while my other non-English languages have seen better days ''go'' day by day. I'm trying to stop that by picking up with my German, French and Italian, and bringing them back to 1999-levels (best levels) by mid-2005. ==Recent activities== *DF08, say hello to the Public: As of 15 October 2004, all texts and new images/graphics released as public domain images. (12.10.2004) *Early October 2004: Most work is done on the expressways of China as more and more expressways are given a new "infobox". ''Chinese Wikipedia:'' Infobox, template and more information and more articles on PRC expressways are underway. (10.10.2004) ==Wikipedia Topics of Interest== *Roads and transportation *Beijing, China - nearly everything ;-) *Switzerland *Mac OS *China - legal aspects *China - history (1912-1949 and 1980-) *Expressways - China and Switzerland *SBB/CFF/FFS ==Activity Monitor== As of September 16, 2004:
1,003 edits (an "edit" is counted as an entry in my Contributions list)
226 articles edited (these are based on entries in my Watchlist; only articles I've edited are on there) ==Purpose== To enable more people to understand Beijing prior to 2008. Come for the Olympics -- and understand more about this fascinating city! Also, to share my knowledge. ==Photo Policy== All released into the Public Domain. (Photos on and before 14 Oct 04 are GFDL.) ==Projects== I have initiated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Transportation in China, which includes airports, seaports, rail, road and expressways. Please feel free to chirp in! ==Style== English orthography: British English (-ise) Numbering: comma (,) to separate thousands (and above); dot (.) to indicate decimal points.
''For example:'' £ 1,234.56 = one thousand two hundred and thirty four pounds and fifty-six pence. Date format: DD.MM.YYYY (''for example:'' 29.12.1996); also MONTH (words) DD th, YEAR (''for example:'' December 29th, 1996). Leading zeroes are used only with the first format (e.g. 1.1.1997 and 01.01.1997, never January 01th, 1997). ==DF08 Diplomacy== Basic Principles: * Be nice. Everyone's a Wikipedian. * Be insightful. Contribute and tell. * Be wide-eyed. Let that NPOV sink in. * No bare teeth, please. Unrest is uncool. * "Thanks", "please" and such words should be natural politesse, not forced upon you. ==What's NOT a minor edit?== If any one of these conditions are met, I don't mark the edit as minor: * Major changes in content (more than 10%); * Addition of images (any number); * Categorisation; * Removal of stubs/substubs; * Content reorganisation; * Addition or removal of a section of a full number (e.g. Section 2, not Section 2.1) * Content reformatting. If a stub was created (which lead to the creation of the article), the article is created as a minor edit. Addition of languages are minor edits. ==Me and Stubs== I personally do not like to create articles which are less than about three paragraphs and have little content. It's infrequent, but not absolutely rare, to see me create articles that are, upon creation, stubs. I do not create articles which are substubs. My attitude to stubs is, however, despite my previously stated policy, definitely not anti-stub. Stubs should be given a chance -- an attempt at life (so to speak) -- at Wikipedia. When I encounter a stub, I never vote it for deletion; quite the opposite, should I know more about the article described by the stub, I try to do my part in replenishing it. When I think it's got enough content, the stub is removed by me. Substubs are given equal treatment. ==Neutrality== I maintain full neutrality on the issues of politics and religion, and thus do not edit them (however, I ''do'' edit ''law'' articles I'm familiar with). Full neutrality means that my viewpoint on these issues is exactly the same as common consensus (even if I have my own viewpoints, these are kept for myself). Full neutrality avoids extremities. Naturally, full respect is maintained for all under my full neutrality stance. The purpose of such a stance is to avoid edit wars and other methods of unrest or dispute. ----

I found the articles for Jingshen Expressway and Jingcheng Expressway while fixing links to Great Wall that should have been Great Wall of China. Is this two expressways, or just two articles on the same one using a different name? I've noticed that the artciles are structured differently, making it hard to compare the two. I also noticed that you have edited both, so I figured you'd be the one to know. If they are talking about the same one, then I'd suggest merging the content to one page and replacing the other page with a redirect link (by writing #REDIRECT name of page at the top of the article). I would suggest trying to follow a convention where possible (i.e. listing the same information in the same order) so that it is easy to compare articles on similar topics. Cheers! - User:RealGrouchy 18:09, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC) : Hi RealGrouchy: Jingshen and Jingcheng are two different expressways. Jingcheng shoots north towards Miyun and Chengde while Jingshen spans east towards Shanghaiguan and Shenyang. Your recommendations taken with appreciation and gratitude. :-) --User:DF08 18:18, Jul 3, 2004 (UTC) Nice job on all those articles on roads and expressways. You have been congratulated at Wikipedia:Great_editing_in_progress. User:Spencer195 21:11, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC) : Thank you so much Spencer195. :-) To say something in response in Chinese, ''zhe shi ying gai de'' (which translates into "I think I should do this" or "It is only proper", as in a positive sense)... Wikipedia has provided me with some stellar articles on China and Taiwan, and I think to do my part, which is to return some contributions on things I know, e.g. Beijing, is only proper. :-) --User:DF08 01:56, Jul 12, 2004 (UTC) == districts of Beijing == (moved to Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Chinese)) :Yeah... i've made a recent template on the districts and counties of Beijing at Template:Beijing, see if you like the format. On expressways: no prob, but I've only been around in the Beijing area, so I don't know as much as I would if I actually drove on them. But for every drip of info, I'm ready to share them all. :-) :::Just a note, DF, it is not typical to reply on your own talk page every time. Oh... you know how they have the template on the US Interstate highways, maybe there should be one for Chinese expressways as well. It would be really helpful if there was some kind of website on Chinese Expressways and roads, or perhaps railways as well. Be noted, too, that in the United States, Interstate Highways do merge at times, and later separate again. I am not completely sure if this is the situation with Jingshi. You have some really well taken photos, but I think some of them need a digital touchup. I just did Image:BeijingFromTian'anmenChenglouJul2004.jpg, and if you like it, I'll do some other ones you've uploaded. One problem I'm running into though is it's hard when the photo has already been jpeg'ed and shrunk to work on it without loosing a lot of otherwise good detail, eg. Image:BeijingCityWalls1.jpg. If you don't mind me touching up the photos, would you consider e-mailing me a larger version? My address is my username (with a period for the space) at gmail.com. -- :iPhoto is a great tool for managing photos (my other machine is a powerbook), but a little light on the manipulation tools. Send over any photos you want, I'd be happy to work on them. On a side note, nice work with the Beijing page (I was there recently, hence my interest). --User:David Crawshaw 01:08, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC) ==Expressway maps== Hi DF08, Nice continued work on the expressway articles. Is it possible to have some maps or schematic diagrams showing the location or routes of the expressways? User:Spencer195 18:48, 9 Oct 2004 (UTC) Hi Spencer195, These maps will be coming soon! I've already done one or two for a few expressways (e.g. Jingzhang), these will get them first. Maps take quite some time, but the moment a map for an expwy is done, I'll add it to the article. Thanks again for the encouragement! Best, --User:DF08 19:06, Oct 9, 2004 (UTC) PS: Check out the 5th Ring Road article in Chinese -- it's got a map (scroll down), that's a prototype of an earlier map I made. (I wasn't born an artist, so improvements to come...) The new ones will be unified in size (300x300, as the pictures) and be a bit more informative. :Hi again, :Check out Jingcheng Expressway -- how do you like the map? I used OmniGraffle on Mac OS X 10.3 to do it... wasn't all too difficult. --User:DF08 15:13, 11 Oct 2004 (UTC) ::Nice. It makes it a lot easier to understand and visualize. The ''CC-by-sa'' license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the Wikipedia:List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at ''minimum'' those on the geographic articles. User:SchisselUser_talk:Schissel 04:38, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC) == Naming conventions == Hi DF08, I'm thinking about proposing a change to the naming conventions for Chinese expressways, for example, Shitai Expressway --> Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan Expressway. We already have one known case of name duplication (Beijing to Shenyang vs. Beijing to Shenzhen); it's pretty likely that we'll have more, especially if we use the same standard for railways. Plus, names like Jingshen Expressway look quite apparent in Chinese characters, but in pinyin they look indecipherable. On the other hand, I am aware that expressway signs in China use "Jingshen", not "Beijing-Shenyang"... So what do you think? -- User:Ran (User talk:Ran) 08:41, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC) =="Minor" edits== Please do not mark edits that add substantive content as "minor." See Wikipedia:Minor edit.
