Current TVCurrent TV is an independent media company, led by former Vice President Al Gore, entrepreneur Joel Hyatt and a growing team of industry professionals and young minds. After the 2000 election, Gore and Hyatt set out to found a network with a completely different mission: to serve as a Liberalism in the United States counter-point to the major cable news channels, including the Fox News Channel, which many accuse of having a conservative bias. Gore and Hyatt's friends in the television business told them that there was no market for a liberal network. Defeated, Gore and Hiatt hit upon the idea of founding a youth news network. Gore and Hyatt then bought the CBC-programmed Newsworld International from Vivendi Universal in 2004 for the express purpose of launching their new network with the space on some digital cable lineups (and Directv) that NWI had. In the summer of that year, Gore and Hyatt announced their new network, christened ''INdTV'', with a series of public recruitment events. The first of these events was held at the Bambuddha Lounge in San Francisco on August 25th. The San Francisco event announced the launch of the Digital Correspondent position at INdTV and the launch of their website which contained a video blog page maintained by Gotham Chopra. The innovative use of the video blog, or vlog, created a unique atmosphere for potential employees as conversations quickly developed within the comments for each vlog entry. One applicant named Adrian quickly established the Unofficial INdTV Forum, and a community quickly developed within the two forums. Applicants started holding meet-ups in several cities throughout the United States. Robin Sloan, Current TV's resident blogger attended the first San Francisco meet-up of INdTV and it's quite possible that Current TV's partnership with Meetup was inspired by that original meeting back in October at a bar in the Lower Haight. On November 22nd INdTV made their final post onto their vlog. Their post stated that all the applicants would be notified about their potential employment in the near future and to contact INdTV if they don't hear anything by December 5th (or was it the first?), to contact INdTV. On December 4th, the unofficial INdTV forum went down for a number of days, by that time almost everyone on the INdTV forum had received the rejection e-mail, and a few had been told they'd hear something in the future. The forum returned briefly, but it was not longer the junction it was prior to the crash of the server. Adrian went on to start Interject, and a number of INdTV digital correspondent applicants frequented the forum for a while. Indications are that INdTV is no longer pursuing the Digital Correspondent program. Michael Rosenblum, who was spearheading the project has since left the company. Current TV has held two subsequent video competitions in an effort to encourage more people to create and submit pods to air on the station. Current TV is offering at minimum $250 for any video content they elect to put on the "air." On April 4, INdTV announced that: * It would be known as ''Current'' * It would launch on August 1st * It is partnering with Google for a half-hourly news update that would reflect Google searches * The rest of Current's programming will be in "pods" (reflecting off of the IPod and its Shuffle capability), varying anywhere from 5 minutes to 15 seconds (similar to the CBC-TV program ''ZeD'') (A sequence of commercials is called a "pod".) == See Also== Newsworld International == External links == * [http://www.current.tv/ Official website] * [http://www.currenttv.blogspot.com/ Unofficial Current TV Blog] * [http://www.eastbayexpress.com/issues/2005-01-26/news/feature.html East Bay Express article about INdTV] * [http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20050516&s=berman ''The Nation'' article about Current] Media companies U.S. television networks See other meanings of words starting from letter: CCA | CB | CD | CE | CF | CG | CH | CI | CJ | CK | CL | CM | CN | CO | CP | CR | CS | CT | CU | CW | CX | CY | CZ |Words begining with Current_TV: Current_TV
