Cubanate is an industrial music band from London, founded in 1992 in music by Marc Heal and Phil Barry with Graham Rayner and Steve Etheridge. It is known for its early fusion of distorted Heavy_metal_music guitars, and techno music percussion (later incorporating breakbeats) with industrial electronics and vocals. Their creative peak is generally considered to be the single "Oxyacetylene" which was later used as the theme tune of the Sony PlayStation game ''Gran Turismo''. Graham Rayner and Steve Etheridge left shortly after the first single, to be briefly replaced by Julian Beeston, before Marc Heal and Phil Barry decided to continue as a duo. For their 1994 UK tour were accompanied by Carcass, for the ''Cyberia'' tour 1995 they hired Shep Ashton and Darren Bennett. Although the act is not very well known outside the industrial scene, Cubanate had a brief vogue in heavy metal circles. "Body Burn" and "Oxyacetylene" were Single of the Week in UK rock weekly Kerrang! and a number of early nu metal acts have cited Cubanate as an influence. Their final album to date, ''Interference'', was a departure from their earlier techno experiments, with a strong drum and bass influence that alienated some of their traditionalist fans, but was heralded as revelatory by others.
