Csar Nicholas

Csar (aka 'Tsar', and 'Czar') *Nicholas I of Russia,(1825-1855), a repressive despot of small international note. *Nicholas II of Russia (1894-1917), ruled during the Russo-Japanese War and was the last Tsar (overthrown and executed, along with the whole royal family, during the Bolshevik revolution). 'Csar' and 'Czsar' are archaic usages of the modern (from early 19th Century) Tsar, a title essentially meaning 'king' and etmologically derived from Caesar. Several North Eastern European states utilized the title. From the time of Peter the Great ([1721]]) the Czars were more properly called 'Emperors', but the title continued to be used extensively in informal and historical usages.
