Crawford County, ArkansasCrawford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2000, the population is 53,247. The county seat is Van Buren, Arkansas. Crawford County was formed on October 18, 1820 and named for William H. Crawford who was United States Secretary of War in 1815. == Geography == According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,565 square kilometer (604 square mile). 1,542 km² (595 mi²) of it is land and 23 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The population density is 35/km² (89/mi²). There are 21,315 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (36/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.19% Race (U.S. census), 0.87% Race (U.S. census) or Race (U.S. census), 2.01% Race (U.S. census), 1.19% Race (U.S. census), 0.02% Race (U.S. census), 1.48% from race (U.S. census), and 2.24% from two or more races. 3.27% of the population are Race (U.S. census) or Race (U.S. census) of any race. There are 19,702 households out of which 37.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.20% are Marriage living together, 10.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.10% are non-families. 20.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.07. In the county the population is spread out with 28.20% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 29.30% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 11.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 97.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.20 males. The median income for a household in the county is $32,871, and the median income for a family is $36,741. Males have a median income of $29,581 versus $20,352 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,015. 14.20% of the population and 10.90% of families are below the poverty line.
