Commando Training Centre Royal Marines

The Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) is the principal military training centre for the Royal Marines. It is situated near the village of Lympstone, between the city of Exeter, and the town of Exmouth, Devon in Devon. The centre trains recruits, Non-commissioned officer, and officers of the Royal Marines. In this the Marines differ from the Army and other branches of the services in that Officers basic training is conducted at the same location as that of other ranks. CTCRM also conducts the 'All Arms Commando Course'. This is a commando training course for non-Royal Marine service personnel: British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel scheduled to serve with Royal Marine formations, usually 3 Commando Brigade. CTCRM also conducts a number of specialist courses, mainly aimed at Royal Marines but also training members of other branches of the services. As well as the well known Commando Course CTCRM's range of courses include Platoon weapons instructor, various NCO courses, PTI (Physical Training Instructor), Driver, Signals and Snipers. The latter course trains not only Royal Marine snipers but also all Special Air Service snipers. CTCRM has a notably well-stocked small arms museum which has examples of most military small arms of the last century or so. CTCRM is served by Lympstone Commando railway station on the "Avocet Line", which is only open to those having business at the base. ==External links== [http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/static/pages/1363.html CTCRM Lympstone Web site] Royal Marines Devon

Nick, I don't think the sentence about women is true. I have a mate who was on the "All Arms" when the first woman passed in 2002. She took three attempts but did it in the end. I recall she was an officer but I can't remember her regiment. User:Julianp 00:01, 4 May 2004 (UTC) I was not aware of any females who have passed the Commando course, I will check with currently serving sources. Also if any have passed did they do it within the standard timings or were the test standards reduced. I know that some people have been awarded the Green beret having patently failed to pass the tests that go to make up the Commanando course, one HRH Prince Andrew springing to mind. So there is corruption within the system or to put it more politely exceptions are made! --User:Nick-in-South-Africa 16:04, 4 May 2004 (UTC) *There is one woman who has a green beret, however see does not serve as a Royal Marine Commando, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1370070.stm and http://www.navynews.co.uk/articles/2002/0206/0002060601.asp *With respect to the lady, while she eventually completed the course, it's no secret she was afforded the most favourable conditions. It made a nice PC PR storey for the MOD, and all credit to her for sticking at it. user Fair one, I've removed the comment about the Cdo Cse not being open to women in the light of the above. Mind you I confess to a little scepticism that she had it the same as the men. For starters I'd love to witness any women getting up those 30 foot ropes with fighting order or carry the weight that the Marines do on a yomp --User:Nick-in-South-Africa 11:34, 7 May 2004 (UTC)
