Coatbridge

Coatbridge is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, just east of Glasgow. It is also the largest town in the district of Monklands, a district which also contains Airdrie, Scotland, Plains and other smaller villages. In the last century (fuelled by the local discovery of ironstone), Coatbridge was a heavy industry town, which has led to deprivation as the iron and coal industries collapsed. Coatbridge was a major destination for immigrant Irish in the 19th Century. The local football team is Albion Rovers F.C. (Scotland) However attendances are low as most local football fans are drawn towards the larger clubs in nearby Glasgow. There are a few "famous" duos who come from Coatbridge, namely Hue and Cry and Fran and Anna. Britney Spears recently relaxed in the Coatbridge's Hollywood Bowl in preparation for a concert at Glasgow's SECC. ==Transport Links== Coatbridge is served by 4 different railway lines, namely Motherwell-Cumbernauld Line, Whifflet Line, Glasgow, North Clyde Line, Glasgow and Argyle Line, Glasgow.
