I am Russian (you can see, that my English is just horrible). I contribute mostly to scientific, sports and ''Soviet Union people''-related topics. Special attention is always to the article about Samantha Smith (the link is in bold not only because the article is featured and has already been on the Main Page). My dream is to go to the place, where she was buried and bring many, many flowers there. Simply because she was the angel. ==Edits== *1st – edited an article about Valentina Tereshkova. 14:05, 28 Nov 2004 *1000th – created an article about one of my favourite animated films Hedgehog in the Fog. 23:52, 22 Mar 2005 ==Respect/credits== *User:Raul654 (an article about Samantha Smith) *User:172 (historical/political issues) *User:Chris Roy (an article about Samantha Smith) *User:PMA (an article about Samantha Smith) *User:Denni (an article about Samantha Smith) *User:PFHLai (dealing with Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries) *User:Mel Etitis (support in copyvio issue with an article about Nelli Kim) *User:Jonel (a set of Olympic articles) *User:Dbenbenn (dealing with Wikipedia:Copyrights) *User:Joke137 (cosmology) *User:Urhixidur (asteroids) *User:Egil (Wikipedia:WikiProject Geographical coordinates) *User:Vmv (a set of articles about volleyball) ... (sorry if I've forgotten somebody) ==Username origin== My username is the Russian language word Старт written in Latin alphabet (Latin "m" looks like handwritten form of Russian "т", other letters look like corresponding Russian letters), it translates into English language as Start. ==Status== I stopped my edits in Wiki in favor of studies - at least until I have read a book, which I'm reading now, Logical disjunction I have passed my exams. ==Lyrics of a song, which I liked== This is included here just because I like it, after I've seen lyrics of a nice Chinese song on the userpage of User:Mandel. It is called ''Accepting you into Young Pioneers'', lyrics were written by N.Dobronravov. The song was very popular among Soviet Young Pioneers. However, I'll not create an article about this, as well as many other songs, popular in the past, in the foreseen future, because a good English translation does not exist or is not known to me.

Cheers --User:Etimbo | User talk:Etimbo 14:40, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC) ==History of Antarctica ... and the Romanov dynasty== Hello. Thanks for your work at History of Antarctica. I've added one line about Edward Bransfield, too, for completeness sake ( and to de-emphasis John Davies ...) Let's work on another selected anniversary that is coming up soon -- the founding of the Romanov dynasty. 1613 shows Feb. 7, but Michael I of Russia has a different date on Feb.21. Neither Romanov nor Zemsky Sobor shows a date. I suspect Feb.21 is the Gregorian date for the Julian Feb.7, but I am not sure. Can you help clarify this, please ? Thanks in advance. -- User:PFHLai 10:35, 2005 Feb 3 (UTC) : Thank you very much for your help. I'll post the anniversary on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/February 21, to be featured on the MainPage on February 21. Спасибо ! (I copied this from Common phrases in various languages.) :-) -- User:PFHLai 08:06, 2005 Feb 5 (UTC) == Nelli Kim == * Thanks for letting me know; I was too hasty. Sorry it took so long—WP:CP is really overloaded, and we don't have enough people willing to help deal with these constant chores. In the future, when you need a copyvio to be expedited, it might be a good idea to mention it at WP:AN. Cheers, User:Dbenbenn | User talk:Dbenbenn 03:05, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC) :Hi, David (or Dbenbenn if you prefer it)! Thanks, for the expedition of copyvio, concerning this topic! As concerns vs GFDL, I emailed Avsenev with corresponding question, waiting for the answer now. I need your advice then: :*should I alter my templates and in some way, or maybe add template in the articles after my templates, right now, which will remain there, if I'll get a negative answer from Avsenev; :*should I alter my templates in some way or maybe add template in the articles after my templates if I get a positive answer from Avsenev? :What do you think? Sorry, I'm not an expert in copyrights, and therefore can't be helpful in your work. But if you need some help in other fields, e.g. in topics, mentioned on my user page, feel free to contact me through my User talk:Cmapm. Once again, many thanks and best regards! User:Cmapm 14:50, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC) :: I added to . If Avsenev accepts the GFDL, you should change it to , and write a few sentences at indicating that. But the template is only for use in images—text is assumed to be GFDL anyway. See for an example. User:Cmapm 20:12, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Samantha Smith == Thanks for uploading her unaltered image! My respect. User:Cmapm 11:24, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC) :No problem mate. By the way do you know if anything is being done to mark the 20th anniversary of her death on August 25th this year? I was thinking about emailing Samantha Smith Elementary School as they are about the only ones that might know. User:PMelvilleAustin 12:17, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC) ::Sorry, I don't know yet. A piece of additional info I have known is the exact place, where she was buried (not to be shared worldwide, I think, I can e-mail it to you personally, if you desire). If you will have known something, please, let me know or include into Wiki. I suppose, that in Russia there will be no more than a mention in the news (a big shame on post-Soviet Russia for everything concerning her name). I don't know for USA, this would be a valuable info, although I'll be unable to go there myself in the nearest future. User:Cmapm 12:46, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC) ---- Sure - email me. User:PMelvilleAustin 12:55, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Archery at the Summer Olympics == Your contributions to this set of articles are more than impressive! User:Cmapm 21:36, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC) Thanks! I would love for Wikipedia to have basically all the extant information about the Olympics as I hate having to look in four or five different places for the answer to every question I have every two years. I'm beginning to realize just how huge of a project that is ;). - User:Jonel 00:29, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC) == Geo coordinates == Thanks for your kind words. I've made something for the moon, see the moon talk page. -- User:Egil 21:48, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC) :Its you that started this project! Absolutely fantastic concerning coordinates on the Earth! Well, your experiments on the Moon maps are good themselves, but the online sources are scanty at the present. I didn't find better ones neither for the Moon nor for the entire sky (in contrast, the downloadable maps are in plenty). I personally think, that first general zoomable in and out map should be presented to realize, where the object is located (I didn't find online resources for this at all). And only after that the "image resources" should go (there are few of them, but they either require something additional or are without "global zoom in/out" feature). So, in short, your work is excellent, but the web is not yet prepared for the realization of some ideas. User:Cmapm 17:19, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC) ---- Please contribute to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Samantha Smith. User:PMA 04:41, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Samantha Smith again == Can you try and see if you can locate these books - *Arthur and Samantha Smith: ''Journey to the Soviet Union'', Little Brown and Co., 1985. 1st ed. ISBN 0316801763 *Anne Galicich: ''Samantha Smith: A Journey for Peace'', Minneapolis Dillon Press, Inc., 1987. ISBN 0875183670 The person who cited them in the article doesn't appear to have actually used them (an old trick on Wiki :( ) and i'm sure they contain the info needed to bring the article up to FA status. User:PMA 13:17, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC) :I think, that user, who created the article, used not books, but internet resources. These references were added by myself, when I edited the article for the first (as I remember) time. I added info about Artek from her book and info about her birthplace and moving to Manchester from Galicich book. I don't have these books. I only 1.found a chapter about Artek from her book, translated into Russian. 2.found excerpts from Galicich book [http://www.expage.com/reportonsamanthasmith] The problem is that I'm not a perfect translator. Although there is a lot of info in the latter link in English, it will be hard for me to make a short summary of it. But I'll try to include some info from there, especially about her early years. User:Cmapm 14:44, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC) --- Thats ok mate - just seemed odd that the article was so brief if those two books (her own book and the biography of her) had been used as references. User:PMA 14:48, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC) ---- I put in the general location of where she is buried but just to stop someone coming along and saying she was cremated when that isn't true. User:PMA 14:02, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC) :All right. Also, may be "thieves who steal non-ferrous metals" in English should be expressed in a different way, than I did :"non-ferrous metals' thieves"? User:Cmapm 14:12, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC) ==Samantha Smith== In fact, italicized part of that sentence was a quote, although I believe it did not seem like it :-) Download this [http://amelia.db.erau.edu/reports/ntsb/aar/AAR86-06.pdf] .pdf file of the official report (4.5 M) and look on its page 16 (20th "pdf page") at the lead sentence of the section 1.15 - "Survival Aspects" to ensure. Although, I think, the way you altered the sentence didn't change much the essense and may be left as it is now. User:Cmapm 09:28, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) :I changed the sentence back to the way it was when you added it, except using doublequotes instead of the italicizing double-singlequotes. I still left out the comment from the middle of the sentence as it was confusing. The quoted sentence is exactly as it is in the report, including the misspelling of "altitude" as "attitude" (originally, I thought that you were the one who had made the typo), albeit with a "[sic]" note. –User:MementoVivere 10:36, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::Thanks for reverting. I can say, you weren't the first, who was confused by that word :-) Thanks for adding that note for future confused people. I removed that external link from the article, because the report is already referenced, namely - through a link in "External links" section "Air Crash - description with a link to official report". Also, some people don't like ext. links to be included into the article, see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Samantha Smith, [User:Shauri]]'s note in particular. Thanks for your attention to the article. User:Cmapm 12:41, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::Yes, completely agree with your last change "Air Crash"--> "Aircraft Accident Report", this made a link much more noticeable. User:Cmapm 12:55, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) ---- i am sure we can do an article that does Samantha proud User:PMA 17:07, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC) ---- I'm sorry - hope you will come back one day. User:PMA 00:45, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC) == Samantha == Only now I noticed your copyedit and a nice article about an asteroid, created by you. My respect and best regards. User:212.199.249.206 (aka User:Cmapm) :Thanks for your comment. I want to see this article featured too. User:DenniUser_talk:Denni 00:13, 2005 Apr 13 (UTC) == Bar Harbor Airlines == Hi. Interestingly, there are more ironical similarities between two accidents: in 1976 and in 1985. Not only planes were very similar, but both accidents occured during localizer approach:1976 initially struck a hill and 1985 struck the forest. You can read (I think, you know this already) a brief description of 1976 here [http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19760816-1] and a brief description of 1985 with a link to pdf with the full report here [http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19850825-0]. However, I'll not add these details into the article, because my English is too bad. User:212.199.249.206 10:50, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC) (aka User:Cmapm) :Like wise, thanks for your comment. Very, very chilly instead all of the similarities between both crashes. Feel free to update the article as you wish! :Happy trails around wikipedia! Thank you and God bless you my friend!!! :Sincerely yours, :"User:AntonioMartin' == "Soviet Union" vs "USSR" in Olympic articles == Hi. Well, "USSR" is more commonly used in Olympic articles, including all medal tables on the IOC website and here in Wiki. Another argument for the "USSR" is that the IOC country code (URS) is a 3-letters-shortcut for the French ''URSS'' which is ''USSR'' in English. I am going to make appropriate changes. : I don't really have a personal preference. I chose "Soviet Union" because our article for the country is at Soviet Union, but "USSR" is fine with me. I will use that from here on out. -- User:Jonel 04:26, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC) Another proposal: I think, that besides the flag, an image of the NOC symbol should be present (if it can be found). Like User:Chuq included it for Australia at the Summer Olympics and six or so other countries and like I included it for the USSR at the Summer Olympics User:Cmapm 20:08, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC) : Excellent idea. As long as one can be found that doesn't present copyright problems, those would be great additions to the pages. -- User:Jonel 04:26, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC) ==Moscow Olympics== You cannot say it was the first time an olympics was held in a "socialist" country as socialism is such a broad term meaning any from Maoist-communism to Moderately left leaning democratic parties in Western Europe. London Olympics 1948 was at the time of a "socialist" Labour government. Although the Soviet Union did use the word socialism, refering to it as a socialist state is a perjorative phrase in the west, used by those who generally right leaning. It was the first "communist" country to host the olympics. User:Dainamo 13:23, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC) == Vandalism at Carly Patterson == It was just vandalised by 67.180.202.155 I'm sure it's the same person as 67.180.1.104 who vandalised the same page four days ago. Should these two addresses or maybe the whole 67.180.* network be placed into Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress? User:Cmapm 21:02, 7 May 2005 (UTC) :It would probably be a good idea to wait until the same IP has vandalized the page at least twice before someone adds it to Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. When that happens, though, feel free to add it-- I might if I see the vandalism before you do. Cheers! --User:Bdesham 20:53, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
