I'm currently spending my (Wikipedia) time helping clean up by wikifying Wikipedia:Deadend pages; one of the Wikipedia:Nooks and corners of Wikipedia that should be frequented Interesting what you can find there. Did you know that Trinidad and Tobago has a public holiday with the wonderful name of Spiritual Baptist Liberation Shouter Day or why its called that? And by wikifying Pygmy Projects I learned about Demoscene the computer sub-culture of Demos and Intros. I have also gone down in Talk:John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt as the newby who proposed deleting John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt - whoops! But the process worked so we ended up with a much improved article And I learned something new and nobody Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers. Right now I am doing a little reading on the history of India in the time of the Mughals - there is an article on Firangoji Narsala that is no longer a deadend but could do with a little polish, and its not the only one ......

==Introduction from Chris== Hello world! --User:Cje 08:11, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC) ==Welcomes from (some of) the rest of us Wikipedians== Hello and Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. You might find these pages useful: * Wikipedia:How to edit a page * Wikipedia:How to write a great article * Wikipedia:Naming conventions * Wikipedia:Manual of Style You can always experiment in the Wikipedia:Sandbox. One more thing: if you leave a note on any kind of discussion page it's always helpful to sign your post with four tildes (~~~~), which is automatically converted to your username and the date and time. Don't do this in articles themselves though as they are not 'owned' by any particular contributor. If you have any questions, see Wikipedia:Help, leave a question at the Wikipedia:Help desk, or feel free to drop me a line on my User_talk:Trilobite. Thanks again and happy editing! — User:Trilobite User_talk:Trilobite 15:04, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC) ---- Welcome to the World from the World, Chris! (You may delete those headings without offending me; but they help readers to find their way around. Talking of finding one's way around, maybe you could edit your New User Log entry to give it a shorter link to this page.) I presume it's THE Open University you're involved with? Don't omit to check whether the articles about your home patch need improvement. Enjoy! User:Robin Patterson 12:44, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC) Explaining (at Chris's request) the above reference to "Headings" - I added the two headings that are now showing on this page. We seem to have a convention here that says one should not edit OTHER people's work on User pages or the corresponding talk pages; and adding headings might go close to breaching that convention if it changed the flavour of a paragraph even though not touching the words themselves. So it wasn't anything YOU had done or meant to do, Chris! (And thanks for adding the direct link from the Wikipedia:New user log) - User:Robin Patterson 04:04, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC) == substitutability doesn't need a page == I was reading your comments on substitutability and I think that you are correct. I am tempted to either speedily delete it or (perhaps even better) move it to wiktionary. I've x-posted this comment on the talk page as well to see if anyone else agrees. Nice to meet you.--User:Jpittman 23:19, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC) Good to meet you too! I've been working my way through the list of deadend articles (alongside a couple of other wikipedians) and have built up a list of articles that I will propose deletion of. Substitutability is on that list. Now I've mastered the process of putting things on VfD I'll start on that. On substitutability I want to do a little more research to see if the concept has been applied elsewhere, in which case there might be a real article. --User:Cje 07:52, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC) Well, I'm glad I wrote the above rather than proceeding to VfD. User:Lachaume has done a nice job on generalizing the article - so no need for VfD or wiktionary. --User:Cje 15:32, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC) == Menalib == I am now relisting the page. That was back in the day when I was unaware of how to correctly list a page on VfD. User:Poccil_(User_Talk:Poccil)">User:Poccil|User:Poccil (User Talk:Poccil) 21:51, Oct 7, 2004 (UTC) VfD result was keep, and the article hqs been wikified --User:Cje 15:34, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC) == Spiritual Baptist/Shouter Liberation Day == Marks the legalisation of the Spiritual Baptist Church in Trinidad and Tobago - also known as the Shouter Baptist Church. Simple enough, though people in the 'Pedia seem determined to get it wrong User:Guettarda 00:25, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC) http://www.nalis.gov.tt/Festivals/SpiritualBaptists_ShouterLiberationDay.htm I wish I knew what the right answer was - I would say trust Nalis, since it's an official government web site, but they are not absolutely accurate, and most of their stuff comes from newspaper stories. It's a shame that the Trinidad and Tobago Gazzette stuff they have online only covers 2002-2003 - that would, of course, be the official word on it. (Personally I think that "Spiritual/Shouter Baptist Lib. Day" or "Spiritual Baptist/Shouter Baptist Liberation Day" would be better phrasing, but I can't re-name a public holiday even if it is badly named. User:Guettarda 17:53, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
