== Geography == According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,342 square kilometer (1,290 square mile). 3,311 km² (1,278 mi²) of it is land and 31 km² (12 mi²) of it is water. The racial makeup of the county is 65.55% Race (U.S. census), 2.92% Race (U.S. census) or Race (U.S. census), 24.28% Race (U.S. census), 0.17% Race (U.S. census), 0.02% Race (U.S. census), 2.70% from race (U.S. census), and 4.36% from two or more races. 6.28% of the population are Race (U.S. census) or Race (U.S. census) of any race. There are 10,957 households out of which 33.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.20% are Marriage living together, 13.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.30% are non-families. 24.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.13. In the county, the population is spread out with 28.50% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 26.00% from 25 to 44, 22.10% from 45 to 64, and 14.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 98.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.00 males. The median income for a household in the county is $27,347, and the median income for a family is $32,118. Males have a median income of $26,373 versus $18,658 for females. The per capita income for the county is $13,298. 21.70% of the population and 16.70% of families are below the poverty line.
