CJAY

CJAY is a Rock and roll radio station in Calgary, Alberta that broadcasts on 92.1 Frequency modulation. Owned by Standard Broadcasting, CJAY operates repeater transmitters located in Banff, Alberta and Invermere, British Columbia. CJAY first broadcast on June 1, 1977, and has maintained a consistent rock radio format through the years, varying only the mix of current and classic rock. The station plays a mix of hard and mainstream rock, featuring current artists such as Coldplay, Audioslave, U2 and Green Day and "classic" (1970s, 1980s, 1990s) artists such as Pink Floyd, Tragically Hip, Metallica and Led Zeppelin. In addition to being one of the longest-running radio stations in Calgary, CJAY-92 also draws one of the larger audiences, typically finishing in the top three stations with a male-heavy audience. The most notable show is the morning Forbes and Friends show, hosted by disc jockey Gerry Forbes, with long-running guests. It features comedy and contests in the style of a shock jock show, although it is milder than most American shock jocks. ==External links== *[http://www.cjay92.com/ CJAY92 web site] *[http://www.broadcasting-history.ca/listings_and_histories/radio/histories.php?id=161&historyID=63 History of CJAY92] *[http://www.cbsc.ca/english/decisions/decisions/2004/040721.htm Canadian Broadcast Standards Council 2004 decision against CJAY] *[http://www.mediaincanada.com/articles/mic/20050512/bray.html Recent (2005) radio ratings for major Canadian markets] Radio stations in Alberta Calgary media
