Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda in Africa. The park is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and is situated along the Zaire border next to the Parc National des Virungas and on the edge of the western Rift Valley. It comprises 331 square kilometers of jungle forests and contains both montane and lowland forest. The park is perhaps most notable for supporting over 300 Mountain Gorillas, half the world's population of the critically endangered species. The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of 788 properties now inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage List. The area around Buhoma is ideal for watching primate and bird, including chimpanzee, or hornbill and turaco. The forest is one of the richest ecosystem in Africa, providing habitat for some 120 species of mammal, 346 species of birds, 202 species of butterfly, 163 species of trees, 100 species of ferns, and many endangered species. In particular the area shares in the high levels of endemic of the Albertine Rift. There are two habituated Mountain Gorilla groups, 'Mubare' and 'Katendegyere'. The Mubare group is fully habituated. ==External link== * [http://www.kilimanjaro.com/uganda/bwindi.htm Kilimanjaro.com] - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park * [http://whc.unesco.org/pg.cfm?cid=31&id_site=682 UNESCO.org] - UNESCO World Heritage Site listing World Heritage Sites in Africa
