BoA

: ''For other things named Boa, see Boa (disambiguation).'' BoA (born November 5, 1986 in Guri, Gyeonggi province) is a South Korean pop singer. She has released albums in both Japan and South Korea, and her recording company, SM Entertainment, is positioning her as a cross-cultural star for all of Asia. She speaks native-level Korean_language, plus fluent Japanese_language and conversational English_language, and is learning Chinese_language. BoA broke records in both Korea and Japan with her smash hits, including "No. 1," "Valenti," and "Listen to My Heart". She has made strides in music and acting with chartbreaking albums released in both Japanese and Korean as well as being a covermodel for huge companies such as Shiseido, Honda, KDDI: Au, and Calpis. BoA has also become a crosscultural icon, bridging historical tensions between the nations of Korea and Japan. When BoA was 11 years old, BoA's brother entered a talent contest to find a new multicultural star hosted by the Korean corporation SM Entertainment. The company invited their participants to bring younger siblings, and BoA's brother brought her along. Before long, SM had settled on her as their future star. After persuading her parents that their young girl should become a singer instead of continuing to study (BoA was a very bright student nevertheless), SM began her training and she was learning the languages a cross-cultural Asian icon would need. In 2002, her album ''Listen to my Heart'' rocketed straight to #1 on the Japanese Oricon charts, during the time of the tension surrounding the 2002 FIFA World Cup, which was hosted by Korea and Japan. BoA was awarded "Most Influencial Asian Artist" and " Favorite Artist Korea" Prizes at MTV Asia Awards held in Singapore on February, 2004. Her songs are now popular even in Taiwan, PRC and some Southeast Asian countries. She is going to move her main theater from Japan to China. She will enter the Chinese market through dramas to spread her popularity first before submitting full Chinese language albums. An official SM representative, Kim Young Min, from Herald Media, has stated that BoA is preparing for her U.S. debut. She appears on numerous magazine covers and some commercials, including KOSE, MISSHA, Lipton, Ting, Pantech & Curitel, Elite, Lotte, Maybelline, and Wired XYZ. BoA also appeared in the Korean Music Festival held in the Sydney Opera House on the 21st of June 2004 and will appear in the Volvo "Hallyu" Concert in University City, California (outside of Los Angeles) on June 11, 2005. Some of her accomplishments include becoming the fifth non-Japanese singer to release a number one single on the Oricon Chart and being the first non-Japanese singer to have more than one album sell over a million copies (''Valenti'' and ''Best of Soul'') in Japan. ==Discography== Track listings are from releases in the label's country (Japan for Avex Trax, and Korea for SM Entertainment) or from the most minimalist versions available. BoA discs are often re-released with titles like "Valenti [Bonus Track] [EXTRA TRACKS] [ENHANCED]." Such versions were avoided in compiling this list. Korean promo songs and Japanese singles will be in bold ===Girls on Top=== BoA's fifth Korean Album with an expected release date of June 30, 2005. *01. MOTO *02. Do You Love Me? BoA

==BoA's Age== "At the age of 18, she has made strides in music and acting with chartbreaking albums . . ." Uh . . . according to the birthdate given in the Wikipedia article, we don't even know what she'll have done at 18 yet. Has John Titor visited Wikipedia to tell us all? User:24.4.127.164 10:57, 28 Aug 2004 (UTC) ==Hanja== The hanja for BoA's name is not her actual name. It was created so that Chinese-speaking countries have something to call her. BoA herself has said her name is a pure Korean name, meaning "to look over; look" etc. Inherently most of the syllables in Korean language can find their respective Hanja, so I think even if her name is given in a totally Korean perspective at birth, the name interpreted in Hanja is worth staying there. == The whole discography == I think there's absolutely no need to have her ENTIRE discography, including the tracks in each release. It only take up space and doesn't look very nice. What I think should be done is that there's only a listing of each release on the page and that if someone wants, they could make different pages that lead to the track listing for some of the releases. :I cleaned the page up, like I said before, it was unnecesarily long and remember, unless you're making a specific page for an album, you shouldn't add the whole tracklist to EVERY release the artist has made. It only takes up space, and remember this isn't a fan page. ::Hm, somebody put it back a while ago. Personally, not that I mind... I started it after all because good data about her releases seems rare on the Internet. It's difficult to correlate multiple countries' worth of media from various stores and catalogues, BoA being signed to multiple labels. --User:ChrisErbach 01:21, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC) :::Ok, but I personally thought that's what fan pages were for and no offense to anyone, but it sort of cheapens the article, at least from my POV. I mean, why not just put links to both SM TOWN and avex discographies? I was annoyed when they put it back up after spending all that time editing it x_x. ::::Hm, do you have the URLs to those? If you do have authoritative sources, we could go back to disc names. --User:ChrisErbach 03:12, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Boa

11 recognised; see text. Boas are a type of snake that are members of the Boidae family. Boas are henophidia that are "primitive" in evolutionary terms (i.e. less derived). They are constriction and give birth to live young. They have anal spurs, a pair of claws on each side of the cloaca which are vestiges of legs. Boas are named after cows (bos) because of the old myth that boa snakes pursue cows and suckle them until they are drained to death. Boas have two subfamilies: Boinae or true boas and Erycinae or sand boas. Pythons are sometimes classified as a subfamily of Boidae, but are frequently listed under their own family, Pythonidae. ====Boinae==== True boas are medium-sized to large snakes. Females are usually larger then males. Boas contain many subspecies based on locaility. They include Columbian, Suriname, Bolivian, Peruvian, Hog Island, Long Tail Peruvian, Argentine and more. The boas from the amazon basin are the most colorful possesing bright cherry red tails. It used to be said that boas were New World Snakes and pythons were Old World Snakes, but, with boas found on Madagascar and the Solomon Islands, this is not quite true. Instead, it is possible that boas have survived in evolutionarily isolated areas. South America, until a few million years ago, had a distinct fauna that included marsupial mammal; with the land bridge to North America, boas have migrated north as placental mammals and colubrids (for example) have migrated south. *''Acrantophis'' (Dumeril's Boa and Madagascar Ground Boa; sometimes equated with ''Boa'') *''Boa'' (Boa constrictor) *''Candoia'' (Pacific Boas) *''Corallus'' (Tree boa) *''Epicrates'' (Rainbow boa and Island Boas) *''Eunectes'' (Anaconda) *''Sanzinia'' (Madagascar Tree Boa; sometimes equated with ''Boa'') ====Erycinae==== Compared to true boas, erycines are quite small, with most members of this subfamily remaining well under a metre in length. Fossil erycines have been found in rock strata over 50 million years old, and were once widespread in North America. Now, only two species remain in North America, as well as the sand boas in Africa, Asia and southeastern Europe. At least three erycine species lay egg (biology): the Calabar Burrowing "Python", ''Calabaria reinhardtii'' (once classified as a python for this reason); the Arabian Sand Boa, ''Eryx jayakari''; and the West African Sand Boa, ''Eryx muelleri''. *''Calabaria reinhardtii'' (Calabar Burrowing "Python", Africa; sometimes equated with ''Charina'') *''Charina bottae'' (Rubber boa, west coast of North America) *''Eryx'' (sand boa, Africa, western Asia and southeastern Europe) *''Lichanura trivirgata'' (Rosy boa, southwestern U.S. and northwestern Mexico; sometimes equated with ''Charina'') ==See also== Photographs of the Belize fauna (5) ==External link== *[http://www.redtailboa.net/ General Information on Boas] *[http://www.kingsnake.com/sandboa/ The Sand Boa Page] Snakes Boas

Bôa

:''For the Korean pop singer, see BoA. '' bôa is a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1993 by drummer Ed Herten. They are most widely known for the song "Duvet", which was used as the theme song for the anime series Serial Experiments Lain. Because of this, they are fairly popular among anime fans around the world; in particular, they performed in a live concert at the anime convention Otakon in 2000. After a long time waiting for bôa fans, their new CD, "Get There", came out on the 1st of February, 2005. It took bôa in a new direction, with more structure in lyrics and melody, as well as a mellower and more pop-ish tune. It was also more acoustic then the first album. ==Members== *Jasmine Rodgers (Vocals, Guitar) *Steve Rodgers (Guitar, Vocals [on song "One Day"]) *Alex Caird (Bass) *Lee Sullivan (Drums, Keyboards, Percussion) Former Members: *Paul Turrell (Keyboards, Guitar, Strings Arrangements, Percussion) *Ben Henderson (Guitar, Saxophone, Percussion) *Ed Herten (Drums) Session Musicians: *Sue Baker (1st Violin) *Jude Gonella (2nd Violin) *Kate Wills (Viola) *Hannah Birch (Cello) ==Discography== *''Duvet (single)'' *''Tall Snake E.P.'' *''The Race of a Thousand Camels'' *''Twilight (album)'' *''Get There'' ==External links== * [http://www.boaweb.co.uk/ Official Website]
