''Behind the Music'' is a television series on VH1 that ran from 1997 to 2003, and continues to air sporadically with new episodes. Each show focuses on a musician or musical group, documenting both the successes of the musicians and the problems they faced during their careers. Each episode is narrated by Jim Forbes. VH1's criteria for choosing the musicians who appear on the show is, in many cases, to profile those who are no longer in the music industry, or were moderately significant enough in rock history to appear on the series. This is as opposed to VH1's other biography show, ''VH1's Legends'', which profiles musicians that have been very significant to the industry. I'd take issue that the artists profiled were "not significant to the industry", and in any event it's not the type of statement verifiable by any objective standard. ''Legends'' has the most significant artists (at least in VH1's opinion), while BtM has the moderately significant to insignificant ones (again, VH1's opinion).
