Still, it's a personal choice that is best left to individuals and their families. *I have no problem with gay marriage. It'll just never happen within my church. **I do however, agree that homosexual activity (but not homosexuality as a mindset) is a sin. Homosexuality can be changed, and it would be beneficial for gays and lesbians to do so, but it should still be their choice. *I will register to vote as a libertarian when I'm 18. *I am a weak pacifist **I am sickened by the fact that I actually do support the war in Iraq (though not the way we got involved in it). But it could be (and needs to be) ended soon peacefully without military force. **Americans, by and large, need to change their general attitude toward the Middle East and the Islam. *I support the open source movement **However, I think that Richard Stallman needs to get a taste of reality...especially in regard to nomenclature. ==Interests== ...or things I wrongfully claim to be an expert at. *Abrahamic religion *Politics *Psychology *Computer Science *Poetry *Cultures *Typesetting ==Religion== My religious journey has been a bit twisted, but I've found the truth. Essentially and chronologically: * I loved to study religion. ** I was a skeptic, an atheist. ** I drank lots of coffee. * I found out (discreetly) that a very close friend of mine was LDS. Very, very, LDS. * I looked into it and became an anti-Mormon (as in against the church) apologist. * Eventually, I began to think of my friend again...about what I was doing to what she held sacred. ** She didn't know about any of this at the time. * On the verge of suicide, I prayed for her salvation. * Over time, I came to realize how ''I'' was wrong. ** Coming out of anti-Mormonism made me all the more faithful in the church. * I have recieved a testimony which, according to my friends, is like that of a General Authority. **My Heavenly Father had put me on the path of tribulation and I was able to find Him because of it. * I am now a pro-Mormon apologist and firm believer in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Read the whole story (highly recommended!) Your user page is very interesting. It seems the journey of personal worship and spirituality never ends. I guess that is why the Father lets us stay in this world for a time. I'm getting close to 40, and it seems I am learning more and more, faster and faster, as the years go by. I'm an 8th gen Mormon myself, but Oh, how personal the journey still is! I am learning that there are great, deeper meanings in all the things we do daily, and I am learning that the single goal of it all is to help us become one with the Father and the Son in Love. The scriptures are so-ooo plain about that, but I guess it is natural to miss it. I am starting to be very gentle with my kids, I am getting to be more libertarian in general. I am now surmising that Love is the greatest attribute and commandment, and that personal freedom and accountability is the greatest Holy constraint on human action. We must love in the sense of being patient, humble, gentle, kind, and voluntarily sacrificial, and we must allow all other humans to walk their own path. Our duty toward them is to give good gifts, encourage, and exemplify Christ. Well, I ramble. Cheerio. User:Hawstom 20:40, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC) ==Religion== ===Testimony=== IMO, there is only one definition for testimony, and that is the statement of what one has experienced. I don't think it is smart to encourage divergence of meanings with a separate encyclopedia section. However, I suppose reality is that testimony is used in churches to establish truth for the uninitiated. What I find problematic is the dilution of meaning of testimony into something that is not in harmony with the spirit of the word. I can bear testimony of my experiences praying in faith and the results. But I can't bear testimony of putting my hands into the side of the Son of God. Either way, my testimony is valid and related to the religious purpose of life, in that it builds faith IF it is shared humbly and unembellished. "I did this. This happened. Glory be to God." User:Hawstom 17:11, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC) ===WikiProject=== I never noticed you before or I would have left a message about the Latter Day Saint WikiProject on your talk page. I must say that your background (from depressed anti-Mormom to liberal Mormon) is similar to my own. At BYU it can be a little depressing at times how Republican it is. - User:Biggins 16:25, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC) :Very true. I've noticed that most of the members in the church that I've met thus far have been very open-minded when it comes to politics. Occasionally their opinions will slip through in a talk, but I don't really mind all that much. The beauty of it is this: I'm really the only person in the church my age that actually cares about politics; so when one of my peers asks for political advice, I tend to influence them a bit. User:Bccomm 03:34, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC) I really respect your views. I have always voted 100% Republican, and though I am starting to really step outside the box, it appears I may continue to vote as previously. That said, I identify with most of the views you express on your user page, except that I believe it's appropriate that statutory law reflect good moral law (anti-abortion, procreative-based marriage). I hope you will continue to keep the values that drive your current views.
