
A Bachelor of Science (B.S., B.Sc. or less commonly, S.B. or Sc.B.) is an bachelor's degree academic degree awarded for courses taken that generally last three years in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Quebec, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Africa or four years in the rest of North America and Scotland. In North America, a Bachelor of Science degree usually requires a student to take a majority of their courses (usually ½ or ¾) in the sciences, namely life sciences, physical sciences, or the mathematical sciences. Most universities plan the Science Bachelor degree as a liberal arts course schedule. In the UK, which subjects are considered science subjects varies, e.g. economics degrees may be Bachelor of Arts in one university but B.Sc. in another. A Bachelor of Science receives the designation B.Sc. or B.S. for a major/pass degree and B.Sc. (Hons) or B.S. (Hon) for an honours degree. Formerly, in the University of Oxford the degree of B.Sc. was a postgraduate degree. It has since been renamed M.Sc. ==Tagged degrees== Many colleges of engineering, business, education, etc. also offer the Bachelor of Science as a ''tagged'' degree. A tagged degree incorporates the name of the major into the degree title, and generally requires more specialized course work than a degree with an untagged major.
