== Creating Articles == Good work creating new articles. When you create things, it helps tremendously to assign them to an accurate category (see WP:CG for info). If you're ''really'' not sure about categories, at least assign your new articles a stub category (see WP:SC for info). By assigning a category, you help make sure your new articles don't get lost as 'orphans' that are not associated with related topics. User:Feco 06:35, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

==Template:Lawschool-stub==
Hi - I note your new template for law school stubs. It's a good idea to have such a category, but two things for future reference: 1) there's no point having a stub template if it doesn't link to a specific stub category (I've added one); 2) Stub categories are usually debated before creation at Wikipedia: WikiProject Stub sorting. As I said, in this case it's a good idea for a category, but if you are planning to make any more you should probably run them past WP:WSS first! ::Hi again - yes, the categories are the same, but there's a set hierarchy for them to fit into (I've edited the two you mentioned). There are two problems, though. The first is that you'll have to do a null edit on all the articles you've put stubs on in order for them to appear in the categories (Templates behave a bit oddly). The second is more serious - there was already a Template:Honorverse-stub - which was related to the Honor Carrington series of books. This is likely to be a confusing name. In any case, this group of stubs would be covered by org-stub (organisations) or edu-stub (tertiary education).
::You might like to go through :Category:Africa-related stubs to see what there is related to Uganda worth re-stubbing, too. User:Grutness|User_talk:Grutness 03:37, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
== VfD untransclusions ==
Since you've taken an interest in helping to untransclude the really long discussions from the main VfD page, we should talk about the mechanics. The technique you are using - replacing the text right on the log page - will cause user:AllyUnion's VfD bot to fail to move the articles properly from VfD to VfD/Old. The preferred technique is to:
# edit the transclusion link on the VfD day page from to
# Save the page then go back and find the link (which is now a redlink)
# Paste your header and explanation about the untransclusion on this /temp page. (If you ever need it, I keep a copy of that text on my user page.)
When the VfD period runs out, the bot ports the /temp page over properly. When the deciding admin finally closes the discussion, he/she will (hopefully) re-transclude the discussion onto the archive page. Thanks again for your help. We just want to make sure the bot keeps running correctly each night. User:RossamiUser talk:Rossami 02:13, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
: My personal rule of thumb is about 5 screens (7 on my work computer because the screen's narrower). The rule we tossed around at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Maintenance was "whenever you start to think you need a scorecard to keep track of the players" but that page never really got adopted. It's pretty rare that we need to untransclude. I'm not sure why the recent spate. User:RossamiUser talk:Rossami 02:22, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
== Safety tip ==
There's a nasty bug in MediaWiki: if you edit a section, save it, get back an error and resubmit, there's a good chance the entire article from that section on will be duplicated. This is what happened at Wikipedia:Unusual articles. This is easily fixed (well, the duplication; the bug is still unresolved, I'm afraid), but there's also an easy way to avoid: if you get back an error that the server "gave no response", open the article history in a new tab or window instead. If it shows your edit, you can ignore the error. If not, you can resubmit.
Or, of course, if you don't have all day, just resubmit and someone will come along and fix it. Cheers! User:JRM · User talk:JRM 16:58, 2005 May 2 (UTC)
==Neat Sig==
Thanx! I didn't want to have the usual boring Signature block, but I also wanted to avoid a sig that was ostentatious. I mostly just wanted to add the talk page link (and why doesn't the MediaWiki software do that automatically?), but since I was going through the trouble of editing my sig, I thought that I would at least try to be a little creative.
I'm not that happy with the green, orange, and lavender color combo, but every other choice that I tried just looked ugly, or looked like I was trying for some flag tricolour. There are two other problems that I see with it (other than the bad HTML in my original version that the MediaWiki software ignored until a fairly recent software upgrade, which then had my sig bleeding color on every talk page I had made comments on). One is that the signature does take up a lot of space when you are in Edit mode. The other is that for at least Win98 and earlier computers without upgraded fonts, the empty set symbol for my Talk page link doesn't work (it would also be true for anyone not using a Unicode-compliant browser). I could have "cheated" and used Ø (Ø) instead of ∅ (∅), but it wouldn't have been the same. User:BlankVerseUser talk:BlankVerse 05:24, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
==Signature snafu==
Hi, it looks like there's an unclosed bold tag in the html of your signature (the one before the "thi"), and it's messing up some pages as a consequence. You might not have noticed this before, as mediawiki's tidy function (which is occasionally turned off for performance reasons) often covers up such errors. -- User:John Fader (User talk:John Fader | Special:Contributions/John Fader) 10:05, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

Hello, BDAbramson. Thank you for taking the time to say those kind things to me on my talk page. It was a very pleasant surprise, and I genuinely appreciate it. :) – User:ClockworkSoulUser talk:ClockworkSoul 03:36, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for all of the information, its a lot to take in. The website is not exactly what I expected, but still think its a very good thing. --User:BlueRhythmJohnny 16:06, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
==Substubs==
Hi - just wondering, since I see you are one of the few people still using what you think of proposals for its demise? There are currently no substubs, since almost everything that was in the category was more likely to be expanded by giving it a more specific stub tempate. == Userfy template ==
hi. i had a go at making a userfy template for the newbie vanity pages we keep getting.
do you think we should use it in future? make changes to it? thanks. User:Nateji77 05:58, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
I think we should encourage them to move it to their user page, but aside from that userfy/delete and delete/userfy is the same to me. User:Nateji77 14:24, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
== Signature collection ==
I saw your signature collection—would you like a house of horrors variant? I give you User:LevelCheck newest creation.

==Re:Babysitting pages==
Hi again - I'd be happy to help, but be warned, I'm going to have a little less net access than normal during that week myself. Things will get cleaned, but it may take a few hours before I notice (I'm house-sitting for a friend who's off overseas for a week). User:Grutness...''User_talk:Grutness 00:11, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

==Need a favor==
I just spent several hours disambiguating Knopf, Alfred A. Knopf (person), Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. and Knopf Publishing Group but now I have decidedd (after seeing how the links originated) that I really need to have Alfred A. Knopf be the page for the publishing company. I would like to MOVE [[Knopf Publishing Group there but I need to have Alfred A., Knopf deleted first. I deleted the text I added and nothing no links there. CAn you delete that page for me? Thanks.
