BC-303

The BC-303 is a fictional spacecraft in the science-fiction television show, Stargate SG-1. The BC-303 is the production model of the X-303. Both the F-302 and BC-303 are capable of hyperspace travel, primarily because of advances in hyperspace technology due to the discovery of naquadria on Jonas Quinn's homeworld. The original X-303 featured in the show is named ''Prometheus''. The ''Daedalus'' is the sister ship of the ''Prometheus'' and is the second of its class of battlecruiser. However, design changes in the ''Daedalus'' indicate a potential new design designation. Significant improvements and design changes were integrated into the ''Daedalus'' design. ==Ship List== ===Prometheus=== The prototype of the X-303 series, ''Prometheus'' was hijacked before completion by rogue National Intelligence Division agents demanding the release of Colonel Frank Simmons and the Goa'uld Adrian Conrad. SG-1 managed to reclaim control of the ship, and were enlisted by the Asgard (Stargate) to help them trap the Replicator (Stargate) within a time dilation bubble. The Asgard thanked Earth by fitting advanced systems onboard the X-303. The ship was subsequently finished and began a shakedown cruise. A problem with the hyperdrive engines forced the crew to eject the reactor into space, stranding the ship on an alien world. ''Prometheus'' remained there until she was fitted with the hyperdrive taken from a captured Al'kesh bomber. Unfortunately this meant that the ship was underpowered, since the Al'kesh reactor couldn't generate the power needed to fully operate ''Prometheus''. She returned to Earth, but was attacked by an unknown alien ship en route and suffered damage while hiding from it inside a corrosive nebula. The damage was repairable, however. ''Prometheus'' served in the defense of Earth from Anubis (Stargate)'s forces, and was almost destroyed before the Ancient weapons found in the Antarctic outpost were activated. The ship is operated by the U.S. Air Force, and its crew consists of Air Force personnel. Operationally ''Prometheus'' (and her following sister ships) are under the Pentagon's "Office of Homeworld Security". Three officers have been shown in command of ''Prometheus'': Col. William Ronson (Seasons 6 and 7), Major General George Hammond (both parts of "The Lost City") and Col. Lionel Pendergast (season 8). The Prometheus uses Asgard technology in its hyperdrive engine and in its weapons and shields (There may be other uses of Asgard technology installed). This technology was fitted by the Asgard in return for Earth's help in fighting the replicators. It also relies on some Goa'uld technology the most notable being the transport rings. ===Daedalus=== Little is known of this ship except that it is described as a sister ship to ''Prometheus'' and is of the BC-303 class, the production model of the X-303. ''Daedalus'' is expected to appear in Stargate Atlantis' season two. After finding a ZPM in Egypt, ''Daedalus'' travels to Atlantis to power up its weapons and shields. The ''Daedalus'', while the same class as her sister ship, is more advanced than ''Prometheus''. The alien technology was integrated directly into its design, rather than being added on later, as was the case for the former. The ''Daedalus'' is greater in size than its sister ship. It also remains possible that the ''Daedalus'' will be classified as an entirely new ship or redesignated because of the improvements in the design. The ''Daedalus'' is the production model of the BC-303 series and is expected to represent future versions of the ship class. Commanding officer of the ''Daedalus'' will be Col. Steven Caldwell. BC-303

== Daedalus Classification == The show Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are following normal military naming conventions when it comes to the technologies they develope. The X-302 became the F-302. The X-303 became the BC-303. The BC-303 series is following US Navy naming conventions. When a ship class undergoes significant structural and weapons technology improvements, it considered part of the same class of ship, but a new Flight. Hence being called Flight II. I provided information to show this. This is not original research, it is the way the US Navy conducts naming conventions. If we follow US Airforce, it goes a different route. If the prototype experpimental model is the same as the production model, it goes from X-5 to F-5. However, when changes occur between the prototype to the production model, it goes X-5 to F-5A. This occured with the F-22 raptor. The YF-22 is now the F-22A. For the Prometheus class this means the production run model (represented by the Daedalus) would be listed as BC-303A. This is not original research. This is following the identification conventions set down by the United States Military. If this is original research, then the bulk of Wikipedia (this article included) violates this rule and all should be deleted. Anyway, since the Prometheus is apparently following US Navy conventions (hence being called a Battle Cruiser), the BC-303 Flight II is the proper designation. The differences between the Prometheus and the Daedalus are both visual and stated by characters in series. This is the exact same type of information that already makes up this article. Some might call what I've done speculation, but given the military accuracy that the Stargate series has strived for, the choice for designation of the Daedalus is limited. User:Alyeska 06:40, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC) : So you admit it is speculation then? Why not just wait until an actual episode establishes the information you want to add? User:AlistairMcMillan 12:34, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC) Its called an informed hypothesis. Military designation conventions tell us the Daedalus and future Prometheus class ships can be designated only two ways. I didn't state the Deadalus would be labeled as such. That would be baseless speculation. I stated the Daedalus could be labeled as such. That is an informed statement, and I provided evidence in article to back that up. User:Alyeska 17:24, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC) :We have a policy (Wikipedia:No original research) that prohibits this sort of thing. It's fine to have an article discussing U.S. military vehicle model nomenclature, and it's fine to have an article on a class of fictional spacecraft from a popular television show, but since it is a ''fictional'' show there's no guarantee that it follows ''real'' military guidelines until we actually see evidence of that on screen or from some other related source. Is there an article in Wikipedia on military nomenclature that discusses these issues? If so, perhaps one could insert a link to it from here to allow the reader to make these hypothesese themselves if they choose. User:Bryan Derksen 23:26, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC) This ignores the fact that the TV series in question is known for the military accuracy and the fact that the US Airforce is known to provide technical support for the show on many ocassions (to the point that two difference Airforce Chiefs of Staff have appeared on the show in cameo appearances). I did not state the classifications as fact but pointed out it is the logical course of action given historical precidence on the show. User:Alyeska 07:10, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) :But it's still speculation with regards to the show. Explicitly labelling it as speculation doesn't give it an exemption to the no original research rule. User:Bryan Derksen 03:44, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC) Strictly speaking the entire article is original research because it requires people to review the episodes in question and even count specific information (according to Alistair counting is original research). It is infact not original research but is a reasoned and logical conclussion bassed on past information already presented in the show. User:Alyeska 16:40, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC) Ok, as someone left the opening to mention the Daedalus might be labeled as a new ship I added in the point that it remains possible it would potentialy be redesignated. I didn't go into details but just pointed out the differences in the ship indicate this might happen. It correctly points out the valid differences between the Prometheus and Daedalus while not going to the full extent of what I previously put in there. User:Alyeska 22:01, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
