Asian CupThe AFC Asian Cup, formerly known as the Asian Nations Cup is the main national football (soccer) competition of the Asian Football Confederation nations. It has been held every four years since 1956. A qualifying tournament is held to determine the participating nations, currently this involves two rounds of league round-robin format. The host country and defending champions qualify automatically. While only four countries were admitted to the first Asian Cup in 1956, the field of participants now comprises sixteen nations qualified from an initial 43. ===Results=== {| border=1 style="border-collapse:collapse; font-size:90%;" cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width=100% |- bgcolor=#C1D8FF !rowspan=2 width=5%|Year !rowspan=2 width=10%|Host !width=1% rowspan=21 bgcolor=ffffff| !colspan=3|Final !width=1% rowspan=21 bgcolor=ffffff| !colspan=3|Third Place Match |- bgcolor=#EFEFEF !width=15%|Winner !width=10%|Score !width=15%|Runner-up !width=15%|3rd Place !width=10%|Score !width=15%|4th Place |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |1956 ''Asian Cup 1956'' |Hong Kong | South Korea national football team | | Israel national football team | Hong Kong national football team | | South Vietnam national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |1960 ''Asian Cup 1960'' |South Korea | South Korea national football team | | Israel national football team | Chinese Taipei national football team | | South Vietnam national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |1964 ''Asian Cup 1964'' |Israel | Israel national football team | | India national football team | South Korea national football team | | Hong Kong national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |1968 ''Asian Cup 1968'' |Iran | Iran national football team | | Myanmar national football team | Israel national football team | | Chinese Taipei national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |rowspan=2|1972 ''Asian Cup 1972'' |rowspan=2|Thailand |rowspan=2| Iran national football team |rowspan=2|2 - 1 |rowspan=2| South Korea national football team | Thailand national football team |2 - 2 | Cambodia national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |colspan=3|5 - 3 on penalties |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |1976 ''Asian Cup 1976'' |Iran | Iran national football team |1 - 0 | Kuwait national football team | China national football team |1 - 0 | Iraq national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |1980 ''Asian Cup 1980'' |Kuwait | Kuwait national football team |3 - 0 | South Korea national football team | Iran national football team |3 - 0 | North Korea national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |rowspan=2|1984 ''Asian Cup 1984'' |rowspan=2|Singapore |rowspan=2| Saudi Arabia national football team |rowspan=2|2 - 0 |rowspan=2| China national football team | Kuwait national football team |1 - 1 | Iran national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |colspan=3|3 - 2 on penalties |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |rowspan=2|1988 ''Asian Cup 1988'' |rowspan=2|Qatar | Saudi Arabia national football team |0 - 0 | South Korea national football team | Iran national football team |0 - 0 | China national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |colspan=3|4 - 3 on penalties |colspan=3|3 - 0 on penalties |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |rowspan=2|1992 ''Asian Cup 1992'' |rowspan=2|Japan |rowspan=2| Japan national football team |rowspan=2|1 - 0 |rowspan=2| Saudi Arabia national football team | China national football team |1 - 1 | United Arab Emirates national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |colspan=3|3 - 2 on penalties |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |rowspan=2|1996 ''Asian Cup 1996'' |rowspan=2|United Arab Emirates | Saudi Arabia national football team |0 - 0 | United Arab Emirates national football team | Iran national football team |1 - 1 | Kuwait national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |colspan=3|4 - 2 on penalties |colspan=3|3 - 2 on penalties |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |2000 ''Asian Cup 2000'' |Lebanon | Japan national football team |1 - 0 | Saudi Arabia national football team | South Korea national football team |1 - 0 | China national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#F5FAFF |2004 ''Asian Cup 2004'' |People's Republic of China | Japan national football team |3 - 1 | China national football team | Iran national football team |4 - 2 | Bahrain national football team |- align=center bgcolor=#D0E7FF |2007 ''Asian Cup 2007'' |Indonesia/Malaysia Thailand/Vietnam | | | | | | |} == Total Wins == *3 - Iran, Saudi Arabia, Japan *2 - Rep. of Korea *1 - Kuwait, Israel Asian Cup International national football competitions Asian CupInternational national football competitions See other meanings of words starting from letter: AAB | AC | AD | AE | AF | AG | AH | AI | AJ | AK | AL | AM | AN | AO | AP | AR | AS | AT | AU | AW | AX | AY | AZ |Words begining with Asian_Cup: Asian_Cup Asian_Cup Asian_Cup_1956 Asian_Cup_1960 Asian_Cup_1964 Asian_Cup_1968 Asian_Cup_1972 Asian_Cup_1976 Asian_Cup_1980 Asian_Cup_1984 Asian_Cup_1988 Asian_Cup_1992 Asian_Cup_1996 Asian_Cup_2000 Asian_Cup_2004 Asian_Cup_2004 Asian_Cup_Winners_Cup
