Asa Winstanley

Hello I am Asa. I live in London, United Kingdom. I discovered Wikipedia when it was listed on Slashdot in July 2001. I then started tinkering with various bits. I continue to do so when I have a bit of time. Here on Wikiepedia, I sign myself: User:Asa Winstanley or User:Asa Winstanley. My user name used to be just Asa, but that was needed for an article (should have thought more before i used that user name really!). Software changes now mean I could have the user Asa again, but this one is fine :) Only just noticed that some cheeky so-and-so edited my page to make it look as if I LIKE The Matrix. Of course the fact that he/she did this over a year ago leaves me with substantial amounts of egg on my face... = Some articles I have contributed to = == Computers == *The GIMP ''one of the first things I did on Wikipedia!'' *GNOME ''gave birth to'' *GNU/Linux ''uh oh. gave birth to'' *Famous Programmers *Programmer == Arts == *Poets ''just listed R. S. Thomas'' *Little Nemo *Comic books and strips ''started'' *Comic book ''someone else split this off from the above. good job too'' *Film history/China ''was disgusted at the lack of Hong Kong people. Needs loads of work!'' *Martial arts film *Miyazaki Hayao ''A good start. cheers for the unicode and Romaji!'' *The Matrix ''stupid overated rip-off film which spawned a new era of stupid rips-offs'' *Princess Mononoke ''love this film'' *My Neighbor Totoro ''mmm... CatBus'' == Religion == *Biblical canon *Allah ''I brought up the moon god origins stuff'' *Yahweh ''this has developed quite nicely. The first versions were just plain wrong. Now its pretty acurate'' *Jehovah ''still doesn't feel right. perhaps merge with Yahweh?'' *Pope Damasus I ''very happy with this. 99% was my work at one point'' *John Chrysostom ''under development, but largely done'' *History of Christianity ''...gaining momentum... could be good...'' *Theodosius I ''"Catholic" -> "catholic"'' *Saint ''original meaning'' == History and Politics == *Cultural imperialism ''sigh... i give up'' *Rupert Murdoch ''corperate censorship!'' *History of Malaysia ''just a few tweaks'' *Bloody Sunday (Northern Ireland 1972) ''started'' *Derry *The Troubles *War on Terrorism *Suez Crisis *Propaganda model *L. I added the picture and caption * Contra - Reagan's favourite terrorists == Misc == *European languages ''just listed Welsh'' *Welsh language ''gave birth to. but needs significant work by a Welsh scholar'' *Wales ''need to say more about my own country!'' *Wade-Giles ''started'' ----- User:Asa_Winstanley/Asa Winstanley Todo - stuff I have (vaugely) lined up to do at some point
User_talk:Asa_Winstanley - if you want to talk to me, put it on this page My [http://meta.wikipedia.com/wiki.phtml?title=User:Asa_Winstanley page] on meta.wikipedia.com. Here is [http://www.winstanleys.org my web site]. ----- == Musings and Projects == *Early September 2001: searched for "Linux" and modified most references to "Linux" the OS to read "GNU/Linux". Exceptions: personal opinion (Wikipedian's personal pages, /Talk pages and general reporting of opinion), quotes (book and essay names) and titles (e.g Mandrake Linux). : So someone put the Linuxs back annonymously after a bit of a row in the Talk on GNU/Linux. It was certainly an interesting experiment anyway :) *5th Dec. 2001 - Searched for all instances of Papacy and made sure they were linked to the article i started. :) I was seeking distraction, ok?!

Hi Asa! Welcome to Wikipedia! I take issue with your use of the term "node." :-) On Wikipedia there are no "nodes." You must have us confused with Everything2, or something. :-) --User:LMS ---- Fair enough! What term should i use instead? Articles? Items? Bits? -- User:Asa ---- All pages are pages, but not all pages are articles. Encyclopedic content should be on all and only article pages. Comment thereon is on :Talk Pages. Hope this helps! --User:LMS ---- ''Princes Mononoke'' is amazing, isn't it? I'll have to make it a point to look for the others. Perhaps you could write up a bit about :Miyazaki Hayao? The page for :Film history of Japan is an embarassment right now. (And yes, I've been the only contributor.) :-) Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia. --user:Koyaanis Qatsi ----- Hey, I forgot about that request. Sorry, I've had many many irons in the fire lately (grad school, working two jobs, filming a documentary, and researching a second one--ak!) so I've not been on Wikipedia much. Thanks very much for the article; and I like the Unicode in it--now that I have the font. Thanks again --user:Koyaanis Qatsi ----- cheers :) the unicode was not me thou. neither were all the :Japanese language names in in filmography (thou i did intend to do them at some point - the beauty of Wikipedia!) Next i need to expand this a bit more and make a start on each of his films - want to help? -- User:Asa ----- ''More'' to do? Maybe it will help me keep my sanity watching ''Kiki's Delivery Service'' repeatedly. :-) I'll help if I can, but I'm not making any promises. --user:Koyaanis Qatsi ----- "boring mold"!? subjective!. How on earth can you expect people to talk about films without critical comment? If I said 'Viva Kneivel' is a truly dire film, it is subjective, but to not say it would by a lie and unkind to people who might otherwise see the film. ----- nonsense. This is an encypclopedia, not a critical journal or magazine. -- User:Asa ---- You have a small problem coming your way, Asa, and the problem is your name. You are probably aware of the pre-Christian derivation of it; I have an article coming up for the :Norse Mythology block concerning the User:Asa: I fear it directs to your namespace. I'll note this with Larry. User:sjc ----- OK, what do you and Larry sugest I do? I don't mind changing my user name to Asa Winstaley (full name) and removing my stuff from User:Asa, moving to User:Asa Winstanley. I would prefer this to :Wikipedians/Asa. Also, i would like to keep a link to User:Asa Winstanley on User:Asa so that all the links to my name in histories and Recent Changes are not totally broken. Hows that? Will wait for you and/or Larry to reply b4 acting on this. cheers. (p.s. My name is pre-Christian - Hebrew! Asa was also a king in the OT, so maybe i should have thought of that to before i claimed thee space for myself! ah well live and learn) --User:Asa Yeah, I spotted that as well. But then my viewpoint is post-Christian... :-) User:sjc ----- after futher investigation: seems it was User:The Cunctator who put my name as a sub page of :Wikipedians, thou i assumed for some reason it was you. Also seems he is the only one (that i can find) that uses this particular scheme. is this an upcoming standard or something? I tend not to keep up with :Wikipedia policy... I would ''prefer'' User:Asa Winstanley. One more thing: Asa is not just my Wiki name its my real name :) -- User:Asa :No, it's not an upcoming standard. User:Asa Winstanley is all yours. :) --User:Stephen Gilbert ---- Why don't you just use ~~~ to sign your name instead of creating articles? It seems cleaner to me. cheers User:Dori 05:44 17 Jul 2003 (UTC) :I'm not sure what you mean. That is how I sign my name. Are you calling me biased or something? User:Asa Winstanley Death through "European diseases" cannot be called genocidal. They didn't deliberately set out to infect native populations. User:Mintguy 10:35 17 Jul 2003 (UTC)~ : Good point. Looking into this, I can find no reference to imported diseases being a significant source of deaths in the native population during that period, so have altered that section (History of Haiti). The part about disease was never mine, I merely added the word European, assuming that that was what was intended. Disease or no, there is no avoiding the genocial campaign of domination an servitude over the Arawaks that look place. User:Asa Winstanley == Church of Christ == Hi there, Asa. Noticed you because I was looking for pages that link to church of Christ. I'm a member, too. Do you by any chance know Keith Sisman? User:Jdavidb 02:58, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC) : Hi :) I know a little of him, but have never met him. User:Asa Winstanley == Anarchist Symbolism page == Hi there. I have a slight dispute with you on the subject of the Anarchist Symbols page. I don't suppose you could pop on over to the talk page for that topic to discuss? --User:Pmetzger 18:52, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC) ==Main namespace cleanup== Heya, I've moved Asa Winstanley/Todo to User:Asa Winstanley/old-Todo. There's some edit history, so perhaps you want to keep it. Otherwise just delete it (or ask an admin to do so). User:Fvw--User:fvw*">User talk:Fvw 19:14, 2004 Dec 14 (UTC) :Um... ta, I think :) I'm ok with deleting it. Just don't know how to go about asking for that to be done. User:Asa Winstanley 20:27, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
