American Indian#REDIRECT Native American American IndianThe term Native American is actually accurate only for those who originated in America, such as horses and camels. No human being originated, or evolved, in North or South America, as far as modern science can determine. All peoples immigrated to the Americas, either over the Bering Land Bridge tens of thousands of years ago, by wooden sailing ship hundreds of years ago, by steamship, or by airplane more recently. All Americans are therefore immigrants. I propose that the term "Native American," therefore, be expunged from the English language. The term "native American," however, should refer to anyone born in America. One's definition of America is another topic entirely. The proper phrase to use in describing the indigenous inhabitants of North and South America should be "American Indian" to distinguish these peoples from "East Indian" who inhabit the Indian subcontinent in south Asia. Let's rename the title of the article currently listed as "Native American" and give it the proper title "American Indian."
