Amadeo, CaviteAmadeo is a small upland town of Cavite located 8 kms. away from the main highway of Tagaytay City. It is accessible through the same route to Tagaytay City by passing the town of Silang or direct to the short-cut bypass going straight to a prominent rotunda from which the next junction to the right leads to the town. Another way to this municipality is via the Buho-Talon and Salaban route, without passing the barangays of Banay-banay and Dagatan. The town is chiefly noted for coffee as its main product, with scattered fruit bearing trees such as santol and coconut providing a pleasant sight. It is bounded by the municipalities of Gen. Trias on the north, Silang on the east, Indang on the west and by the Cities of Tagaytay and Trece Martires on the south and northwest portions. Amadeo was formerly known as "Masilaw" which was then a barrio of Silang. How it came to be called as such, it was said that a forest area then had an abundance of dapdap trees bearing bright red flowers after shedding of its leaves. These bright red flowers in dazzling bloom displayed a glaring, blinding sight which in Tagalog word means "nakasisilaw". From then on the barrio was callled "Masilaw". Prominent barrio leaders like Leoncio Ramos, Jeronimo Bayot and Andres Villanueva were said to have spearhead the move to make Barrio Masilaw a town independent from Silang. In 1872, Masilaw finally became a town. The inauguration of this town coincided with the birthday of the Prince of Savoy, the second son of the King of Italy and later King of Spain. Hence, the name of the town was adopted in honor of the prince. In 1902, Amadeo was reverted as a district under the town of Silang allegedly because the provincial executive at the time was displeased with the way the municipality was governed since 1899. Resenting this adverse decision, the people, spearheaded by the two leaders, Jeronimo Bayot and Primo Villanueva, presented an appeal for reconsideration. In 1915, Governor Antero Sonorio restored the status of Amadeo as a municipality. Jeronimo Bayot assumed office as the first executive or president. Amadeo was formerly composed of only twelve barrios, but additional thirteen barangays were created under the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 86 as amended by P.D. No. 86-A.
