Ab-

The prefix ab- or abs- is derived from the Latin prefix ab-, which means "off", "away", or "from" and usually expresses removing, separation, or a lower value. According to the ''Oxford English Dictionary'', English language words beginning in ''ab-'' were originally carried directly through from French language, as ''abuse'', or appropriated from more modern French, as ''absorb''. The article appears to this newbie to be a dictionary entry suitable for conversion to ''Wiktionary'', and for VfD here. I copied its markup to the ''Wiktionary'' Talk:Ab- page with a note apologizing for not doing more, & suggestion that someone fold it into the existing one (which is much shorter).
