AI-complete

AI-complete is, by analogy to NP-completeness in complexity theory, a term first coined by Fanya S. Montalvo to indicate that the difficulty of a computational problem is equivalent to solving the central Artificial Intelligence problem, i.e. making computers as intelligent as people. It reflects an attitude that these problems won't be solved by simple tricks, such as those used in ELIZA. Such problems are hypothesised to include: *Computer vision *Natural language understanding *Passing the Turing Test These problems are easy for humans to do (in fact, some are described directly in terms of imitating humans), and all, at their core, are about representing complex relationships between a large number of human concepts. Some systems can solve very simple restricted versions of these problems, but none can solve them in their full generality. == Reference == *Robert Engels & Bernt Bremdal Information Extraction: State-of-the-Art Report July 28, 2000. *Mallery, J.C.M. I've expanded the etymology of the term. I deleted a paragraph about problems with the AI field. It was correct, but not related to the topic of the page. --user:LC ---- [http://mind.sourceforge.net/mind4th.html MindForth] is an AI-complete design composed of mind-modules: * [http://mind.sourceforge.net/alife.html Main Alife Loop of the Robot AI Mind in Win32Forth] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/enboot.html enBoot (English Bootstrap)] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/security.html Security] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/hci.html HCI (Human-Computer Interaction)] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/rejuve.html Rejuvenate (robot immortality module)] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/psidecay.html psiDecay] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/ego.html Ego] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/sesorium.html Sensorium] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/audition.html Audition (for the sense of hearing)] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/listen.html Listen] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/audstm.html audSTM (Short Term Memory)] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/audrecog.html audRecog (pattern recognition)] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/oldcept.html oldConcept] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/parser.html Parser] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/instiate.html Instantiate] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/activate.html Activate] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/spredact.html spreadAct] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/newcept.html newConcept (machine learning)] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/envocab.html enVocab (English Vocabulary)] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/parser.html Parser] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/instiate.html Instantiate] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/emotion.html Emotion] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/think.html Think] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/activate.html Activate] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/spredact.html spreadAct] *** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/english.html English] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/ask.html Ask] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/wtauxsdo.html wtAuxSDo: What Do S(ubjects) Do?] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/speech.html Speech] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reentry.html Reentry] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/activate.html Activate] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/spredact.html spreadAct] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/negsvo.html negSVO] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/auxverb.html auxVerb] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/speech.html Speech] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reentry.html Reentry] **** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/svo.html SVO (Subject+Verb+Object)] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/n-phrase.html nounPhrase] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reify.html Reify] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/speech.html Speech] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reentry.html Reentry] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/activate.html Activate] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/spredact.html spreadAct] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/v-phrase.html verbPhrase] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reify.html Reify] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/speech.html Speech] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reentry.html Reentry] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/n-phrase.html nounPhrase] ***** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/conjoin.html Conjoin] ****** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/speech.html Speech] ******* [http://mind.sourceforge.net/reentry.html Reentry] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/volition.html Volition (free will)] ** [http://mind.sourceforge.net/motorium.html Motorium] ----
